    "1984, Matrix, Borg, now Plaxo???"

    March 26, 2006  |   By precipice

    Version: Plaxo 2.0

    Pros

I didn't like a thing, but I've read a dozen or so reviews that people say it helps them organize contact in Outlook & Outlook Express. I was impressed by the dozens of Plaxo sponsored websights that state the case of why the software isn't spyware and is very valuable. It is a little like a Jedi telling the weak minded, "You will enjoy our software". Maybe it's more like a "We will assimilate you" kind of thing.

If I have to say something positive, then it is that I didn't find anything directly related to Plaxo in my Ad-aware scan after I uninstalled it.

    Cons

From the other reviews I've read you either love this software or you hate it. I haven't found anyone who was on the fence. This software installed when I installed AOL's Instant messenger (AIM) to meet with some friends for an online baseball draft. AIM was trying to take over my associations and even though I could opt out, it was not easy. Later when I wanted to check email this screen for Plaxo came on the screen to install itself. It wouldn't cancel and I couldn't close with the little "X" in the top right of the window. I tried to minimize it to look up information on this "plaxo" but it was always on top. I relented and let it install. Bad decision. It then said it was going through a 3 step process to make me part of the program, it added a toolbar in Outlook, it scanned my email addresses and it was about to send a message to everyone on my list. Here's where I drew the line. I did a Control, alt, delete and got it to stop. Unlike others I read about, I was able to uninstall it.

I honestly don't know if this is worthwhile software or not but my inclination is to think not. The combination of the two programs that begins with trying to replace your browser and other associations, attempts to install "features" without permission, attempts to (I assume) enlist everyone in your address book without your permission led me to be highly suspicious. I've had too much malware, spyware, hijackers, and viruses on my computers to trust ANYONE with all of my information AND that of my friends and colleagues. I still don't know it processed my information or not.

    August 22, 2005  |   By Fobulous

    Version: Plaxo 2.0

    Pros

Seamless integration with Outlook 2003,great user interface, and easy-to-use making this one of the best utilities for anyone who's having headaches about keeping his/her contacts information up to date!

    Cons

Not sure how this would work if one mainly uses a web mail account such as Gmail or Yahoo Mail.

    "Something's "phishy"!"

    March 30, 2005  |   By jeff1224

    Version: Plaxo 2.0

    Pros

I do not have the product installed.

    Cons

I received a Plaxo-originated automated request for an update of personal information in the name of an acquaintance. The reply was to be to apparently a Plaxo-controlled Website. I almost deleted it immediately as spam. However, I sent an e-mail to my friend explaining that I was extremely concerned about this request to send my personal data to an unknown URL. If my friend can't take the time to personally send me an e-mail directly to ask for the info, I certainly will not take the time to send that info to Plaxo.

BTW, since their product if free, how are they paying their staff? Public statements by the company owners say that they've gone thru $10 million dollars already - but I have yet to see any public statements about how they plan to get a return on that investment. If somebody out there knows, please share it with all of us.

    "Software DOES NOT UNINSTALL"

    February 16, 2005  |   By carlw6

    Version: Plaxo 2.0

    Pros

Please refrain from promoting a software that does not uninstall

I have contacted Plaxo and asked for their help in removing the software.

They suggested Add/remove. This does not work. The program's own uninstall feature does not work either.

    "GREAT PRODUCT"

    January 1, 2005  |

    Version: Plaxo 2.0

    Summary

I've used plaxo for almost a year now and what ever problems I have had have been made by me. The product, the online support has been super. I have never found any spam or spyware junk as a result of using plaxo. I have over 400 contacts in my address book, but unfortunately only 10% are connected to plaxo.
I think people are uncomfortable with trying something new. If I had my way everybody be connected to plaxo so we get automatic updates. The only negative is people were having a problem getting their new information and some people who received two or three notices were turned off by that.

On the plus side, I have been able to update everybody's contacts at the office and on my wife and daughters computer from plaxo. I have had over an 85% response on updates and it is surprising how much information changes yearly. I was able to delete a number of obsolete email addresses and contacts. I had a number of contacts with only their email addresses and now they have been updated to include business addresses and phone numbers. The synchronization works great with my blackberry,to outlook, to plaxo and I am always up to date.
