"Good software, no customer support."
Version: Pixillion Plus Image Converter 2.42
Pros
Converts many picture formats into icon or bmp format, quickly and easily. Has many features for those who want to "tweak" their icons. Yet it is easy enough for the novice to learn very quickly. Much better than other programs I have tried or the myriad of ways one can convert pics into desktop icons. If you purchase the program, or actually the registration number to "unlock it", you can convert more than the initial 5, which goes down after you do so many files. The "crapware" they try to load, such as tool bars, and other demo programs are easy to decline. (But the Crapware is common in a large number of downloadable software....Why, I do not know....Why does every programer want to install a darn tool bar and change your homepage? sigh)
I gave it less stars because of the cons I will mention below. Had they been more honest, it would have gotten a better grade.
Worth a look in my opinion.....Cons
No ability to contact a real person to ask question if you want to buy it. The difference between what the Premium and Standard versions do, is unclear.
Once installed you can only convert 5 files at a time, then less after that. It is misleading when they say a free 14 day trial, and they try to dump other software on you every chance they can, during install and if you choose to buy it....If you do, be careful they try to sneak in things like a $33 a month tech support, or a backup disc for $19.99 and other things. Just be aware.
I, like many others do not like the "bait and switch", or changing our homepage or installing tool bars or software we do not want. Honesty will always win the day. It is too bad that NCH software feels they need to resort to misleading information or misrepresenting things. Because it is actually a decent program. I took away 2 stars because of that. A shame, because if they were honest, the software in my opinion would get a high mark anyway.Summary
I did buy the premium version, it converts files extremely fast, you can choose where you wish the exported files to go with no problem. It has many other options which are nice too. But you have to download the manual, but in reality it is user friendly and not complicated.
Once I started using it, I found it a great program, it is a shame that the company has no customer support, UNLESS you bought the Premium version, then you have to enter some code before your allowed to talk to a human....(Still working that part out)
Overall a solid program, not difficult to learn, and has many features many would like. I don't know what they all do, but it is fun to play around with it. If they had better customer, I might try some of NCH software, but I won't simply because of that reason.
FYI, in my opinion the best customer service so far comes from Serif software.. And they have great products along with awesome support.
Hope this review helps someone. -
"Useful but annoyingly misleading free version claim."
Version: Pixillion Plus Image Converter 2.41
Pros
Useful programme - easy to use for what I needed which was straight file conversion (TIFF to JPEG for file size reduction to attach to emails).
Cons
Like so many sites on the internet, annoyingly misleading statement regarding "free version" which at the point of download does not tell you that it's a 14 day trial. Makes you want to remove the programme just for the hell of it. Also leads you onto other products which is equally annoying.
Summary
OK but that misleading up front version info is unnecessary.

"Good program, Bad Support."
Version: Pixillion Plus Image Converter 2.22
Pros
Does a good job of converting the image format. This is a image converter not a resizer........
Cons
Good program, Bad support from company on paid version. More detail in summary page......
Summary
I had ran the free program for a few months and decided to purchase the product. I had done several upgrades and repairs to the computer which required a reinstall of the OS. One was because of a defective hard drive and one was due to a virus and another done because of a bad mother board. NCH only allows the install of the product a few times per year and each time the program is re-installed it contacts there server and sends the computer signature to them to activate the program so any mother board changes or any changes that there server feels is different enough will flag the program. In my case NCH claims that the program was installed on three computers which is not the case. The first few times I did not back up there program like they suggested and that was my fault but come to find out It would not make any difference anyways. The last update I reloaded there back up and it still contacted there server and rejected the activation codes that I had paid for. After several e-mails back and forth and by the way you can not talk to a person at NCH over the phone, I am now stuck with the free version that I paid for with no resolve of this problem. They have been useless and also have my money as well. I am now looking at using AVS for there version of this software for next time??

"slightly disappointed"
Version: Pixillion Plus Image Converter 2.22
Pros
application was easy to uninstall!
Cons
My expectations may have been out of line. I thought I was downloading something that could resize a gif and maintain its sharpness. I had better luck in word than I did using this app. Again I may have expected something the product doesn't do.
Summary
Don't download if you want to resize a picture. You'll need something else. Its just a basic image converted.
