"Excellent alternative to the other IM Clients"
Version: Pidgin 2.7.11
Pros
Very lightweight, runs on GTK+, making it portable to run on many OS's (Windows, Linux, UNIX and so on)...encapsulates all the major IM protocols into one program and eliminates the need to have many IM programs installed.
Cons
The program can be a little bit to get used to, but once you do, you'll love it. I also don't believe that webcams work in here yet.
Summary
If your looking for a great, open source alternative to the major IM clients that you need to run on multiple operating systems, or you just want to clean up the clutter by using one program to manage all the major IM protocols, this is the program for you. I use this program on Windows, Linux and BSD and absolutely love it.

"Best messenger suite solution"
Version: Pidgin 2.7.10
Pros
Open-source (Free as in gratis and libre)
Constantly maintained.
Wide protocol support.
Has many community plugins available. (Including OTR encryption and Music Tracker)
Shares its code-base with Adium (Mac/iOS) and vise-versa.
Low-impact on memory.Cons
Some file transfer issues on some network topologies.
Largely consistent with the Windows UI, but in some ways due to it using the GTK+ framework, lacking in modern technologies (Tasklist and Surface)Summary
Great messenger which supports AIM, Facebook, Gadu, GTalk, Jabber, IRC, ICQ, MSN/Live, MySpace, SILC, and Yahoo. Not laden with adware or spyware, free, and easy to use. Has good tabs support (Dragging a tab out of a window is as simple as grabbing the entry in the tabstrip) and supports multiple status messages per protocol. Works with SOCKS/HTTP proxies for those of you on school networks who want to hopefully transfer files to coeds, friends or family.

Pros

Cons
Nothing that I have noticed.
Summary
If you spend a lot of time on a PC and don't like the various web-clients that are available... this app is for you.

"It works great for me!"
Version: Pidgin 2.7.9
Pros
Still does what it is meant to do
Cons
I wish it would archive my chat's so I can go back and look at what was said.
-
"Waste of time-forget it."
Version: Pidgin 2.7.9
Pros
None I cannot even use it.
Cons
Not user friendly and does not work and has no voice or video chat. So whats the point?
Summary
Pidgin is just an email client but why do I need this when I can send live emails on Google Talk,Aim or Nimbuzz and do voice/video chat as well? Ok,nimbuzz only does voice chat for Google Talk and windows live accounts but for other accounts it does live email text mesages and at least Nimbuzz works. Pidgin does not. Forget Pidgin.

"Rife with Problems and Ugly Interface"
Version: Pidgin 2.7.9
Pros
Many chat mediums
Cons
Buggy, patches introduce new problems, updates remove all my custom settings
Summary
I have used this product for years, and used to get a kick out of tweaking the UI through third party skins, etc. Currently this product is ugly out of the box, and more and more difficult to customize to get it to look decent. The last few versions have finally pushed me over the edge to find something new. Strange nondescript errors, icons disappearing, all my UI tweaks lost when I upgrade. I don't have time to tweak anymore - I switched to Digsby for something that looks nice, easy to customize UI look, and integrates most social media into one slick interface. Sorry Pidgin, you got left behind.

"Torture to eyes"
Version: Pidgin 2.7.7
Pros
Can have multiple IM account running at one time.
Cons
Its a torture to your eyes when screen resolution is more than 1024X768. You cannot even see what's your friends reply to you. It's smaller than an ant's head.
Summary
Use less resources however not suitable for present day screen resolution.

"Still a great program"
Version: Pidgin 2.7.7
Pros
Connects to everything I want it to. I currently use it to chat with G-mail, Hotmail, Yahoo, Facebook, and Skype users. It has lots of skins you can use. It also has spell checking.
Cons
Facebook and Skype need plug-ins to work.
Summary
I wish it could tell me when there are unread e-mails in the accounts I use.

"Best IM Client for the $"
Version: Pidgin 2.7.7
Pros
Easy to install, setup, & use
Cons
Was unable to get the Facebook Chat plug-in to work properly... all other (std) protocols worked
Summary
I would recommend this over ALL other IM Clients

"Unsurpassed quality at the least price"
Version: Pidgin 2.7.7
Pros
Easy user interface. Quick response time. Free.
Cons
Software for adults: No hand-holding anytime, cryptic error messages, automatic actions not easily overriden.
Summary
Very easy to set up and start chatting if you do your homework with the information about your groups, contacts and such.
