"Worth Having"
Version: Picasa 2
Summary
This is good for those that like pics. However,I pick yahoo desktop over this one because it has paint shop pro image support. I would hope that google would put .png,.psd,.psp,.pspimage and so on where you can view them as well.Other than that this is a good solid program that's worth having.

"Great improvements"
Version: Picasa 2
Summary
This is a surprising improvement over the last version. The CD back-up is just what I needed. It has some other features that are a little more cute than useful, but overall this is an excellent program, though a little buggy. Still beta, I think.

"Google has done it again."
Version: Picasa 2
Summary
Picasa 2 is a huge improvement over the last version. Before when you double clicked on a photo you had three options - Fix Red Eye, Crop, & Enhance. In Picasa 2 you get Crop, Straighten, RedEye, Enhance (now called "I'm feeling Lucky), Auto Contrast, Auto Color, and Fill Light which uses a slider control.
And that's just on the first tab. You also get a Tuning tab and Effects Tab. Tuning allows you to use slider controls to adjust the Fill Light, Highlights, shadows, and color temperature (which is one of my favorite features). Under the Effects tab you get Sharpen (which works great) Sepia, B&W, Warmify, Film Grain, Tint, Saturation, Soft Focus, Glow, and a few others.
The print fucntion has been improved too. I own a Epson PictureMate and this detects the correct dpi setting (758dpi)of my printer. That just means my printer won't have to resample my photos, effecting the quality. The last version of Picasa would print at 300 dpi by default. And now you can print wallets which is a big bonus for me.
Comparing this to ACDSee, well, there just two different programs targeting different audances. I've used ACDSee and I prefer Picasa over it. Picasa has a much nicer layout of the thumbnails making it easy to find my photos. ACDSee is faster though.
Also I don't know what the user below was talking about when they tried to turn a black & white photo into a color. He needs to use a program such as Photoshop or Paintshop Pro not Picasa.
The backup is another great tool that will actually get use. I never used the Email before, but now that it has Gmail support I think I actually might.
The only negative thing I encountered using Picasa 2 was using the Order Prints. For some reason it doesn't work, it says I'm not connected to the internet. While Picasa 1 will connect just fine. I think its a bug in the software because my connection is working fine and I have no firewall setup. This is the only reason why I knocked a point away from Stability.

"Amazing new version."
Version: Picasa 2
Summary
This new version of Picasa took me completely by surprised. I loved the original version but Google has definitely out-done themselves this time. With support for Blogger.com and now Gmail this will be one app I will be using frequently. Also, with all of the new photo editing features, this will cut down dramatically on the amount of times I have to whip out Photoshop...at least when it comes to editing photos. Bravo!

"Great for fixing up pics"
Version: Picasa 2
Summary
Okay first of all this DID NOT change a black and white photo into a luscious colour one, not matter what I did. However Picasa does deliver on all the other effects - I loved the 'I'm feeling lucky' option which 99% of the time will make your pics look better than ever! It will also burn your pics AND VIDEO FILES to a cd which you can play on a dvd player (and much quicker than Nero) with great resolution too boot. All in all with the other features it has Picasa is a great program. Beware of the CPU hogging media detector though - it runs all the time unless you stop it. But I guess it's worth it to have it on when you are downloading pics and videos alike.
