PhotoStage from NCH Software creates and saves video slideshows using your pictures, video clips, and tunes. It can save your slideshows to your PC, burn them on a DVD, send them to a mobile device, or upload them to a Web site. With drag-and-drop capability, video conversion, and download-on-demand features, it proved a capable tool for creating multimedia slideshows.

PhotoStage has an efficient layout that takes a step-by-step approach to creating slideshows. We began with Step 1, adding photos, music, and video clips to the Media List, which also let us insert blank spaces. Step 2 involved selecting effects from a tabbed menu, including Crop and Rotate, Pan and Zoom, Text Titles, and some basic video effects. Step 3, Record Narration, let us narrate our presentation and save it as an audio file. It automatically identified our audio inputs, including microphones (which you'll need to record your voice). Before we clicked on Step 4, Save Slideshow, we needed to create one, which we did quickly by dragging photos from our Media List to the clips track below. PhotoStage automatically configured each clip for our overall display time and each transition for our selected duration and effects, including a fade. Dragging sound clips to the audio track below the clips track added them to the production; likewise we could intersperse video clips easily by dragging frames from the saved conversions into our slideshow. We watched our production in the preview window, and, satisfied, saved it to a directory of our choice. It played normally in Windows Media Player when we clicked in it. PhotoStage's Save File wizard also gave us the option to burn our slideshow directly to a DVD, send it to a mobile device, or save it as an image slideshow.

At every step, PhotoStage was easy to use and practically self-explanatory, yet yielded top-quality results, quickly creating a desktop slideshow that we could share with friends and relatives. It also integrates with NCH's other video and media tools via the NCH Toolbox on the toolbar, should you choose to use it. If you're looking for a better slideshow experience, give PhotoStage a try.

    "What a Rip-Off"

    December 17, 2013   |   By tjlee500

Version: PhotoStage Slideshow Producer Professional 2.21

    Pros

Good program but updating etc is BAD

    Cons

    Updating and Support is TERRIBLE!

    Summary

    Updating is a rip-off"

    December 17, 2013 | By tjlee500

    Pros

It is a good program but updating is expensive and unfair

    Cons
    Updating and Support

    Summary

I bought the program 3 months ago and decided to take the UPDATE option from the open program. No warning that this would deregister my copy. It updated and became an unregistered copy. I contacted support and registration is linked to the DATE you bought program. I learned I would have to pay an update fee which was almost the cost of the original program. I finally got support to send me link to older program so I could use my purchase reg. key.

Most programs allow you to update for free or at least tell you update will cost so much. Not NCH software. Buyer Beware! I will search for a program that has a reasonable update policy. Just went to Windows 8.1 for FREE!

    "This program is very bad."

    September 23, 2013   |   By Frankdal25

Version: PhotoStage Slideshow Producer Professional 2.21

    Pros

The price is reasonable, but the program does not work.

    Cons

I have Windows 7 Pro and after spending 2 days on my grandson's wedding slideshow, the project disappeared from my pc. Whenever T did some work on the project I saved the project for the next session. When I tried to open the project it was nowhere to be found. Where the HECK dik it go? Don't buy this software. When I had XP I used Photo Story 3 and it worked great. Too bad it does't work with windows 7. Can anyone suggest a good Slideshow program? Thanks.

    Summary

I need a good Slideshow program to buy.

    "Simply doesn't work as advertised..."

    August 26, 2013   |   By petedalejudi

Version: PhotoStage Slideshow Producer Professional 2.21

    Pros

easy, intuitive, great GUI. I really wished it worked...

    Cons

Just does not work!! Everytime I ran it I got a different file length. I ran it with same input slides plus music and sometimes it crashed other times it finished but skipped slides in the play mode. I tried .wmv and .avi with different setting (bitrate) still no go. I tried all compatability modes for the program as well under win8. I was only able to make this software run under my old p4,2.53 ghz system, it took 4 hours for a 17 min slideshow!!

    Summary

Try if for free and really test before buying this software. If you do buy it do so with a credit card and save yourself from dealing with NCH software. This software drops some of the pics in the show and hangs on others...so make sure it works for you. I was using a wedding with 242 pics and some music. I spent 2 weeks testing this under all variations. I don't know why Cnet rated this so highly....
    Good Luck....you'll need it. I

"DVD Major Playback Issues - Do not buy for DVD burning"

    June 03, 2013   |   By JH20Twelve

Version: PhotoStage Slideshow Producer Professional 2.21

    Pros

    1)Easy to use, very intuative.
2)Ability to edit audio clips to chosen length and adjust fade in/out points
    3)Good range of transition types
    4)Playback preview function

    Cons

1 ) Burning to DVD simply does not work in any meaningful or reliable manner. Having created slideshows varying between 50 and 400 pictures, with and without audio, I have only been able to create one working DVD. That required saving the same slideshow 5 times before it would playback. Every other time the images froze at random stages part way through, whilst the audio continued, and sometimes seems to have re-ordeed the images into a different order (possibly by size?).

    2) Scrolling throgh images is clumsy. Although easy to use, amending the clip or transition duration or transition type for multiple clips is very unweildy. Although a simple click/hold shift/click function, scrolling along say 20 images seems to take a long time.

    Summary

As my main reason for buying this application over others was the supposed abilty to burn a slideshow with audio to DVD, I am very dissapointed.

Despite trying different DVD writers, disc types and varying the content and size of slideshows I have not been able to identify a specific reason for it not burning a playable version to a disc.

Saving as a datafile does work (most of the time) but that is not why I bought this.

Despite its attractive features and options, it is not fit for the purpose for which it was advertised or for which I bought it.

I can not recommend this product.
