View images. Edit images. Edit images in batches. Edit images into 1 nice frame. Print nicely. Quick to use, easy to adapt to. Thumbnail size can be chosen (since sometimes thumbnail too small to even see). More below.

Could do better, such as remembering where to save the files/images instead of needing to select directory again and again or creating a folder on desktop for quicker access. No randomize option, to random the images into the frames and save them.

More pros: visual appearence is ++. Looks professional as well as simple and user friendly. It loads (when opening the program) fairly fast (but still uses a large number of ram). VERY GOOD TO USE AND DO MANY THINGS, A GOOD IDEA TO USE FOR WOULD BE SCRAPBOOKING! Try this program out people, it is easy to use and very easy to get use to! And hey, it's FREE!

"Best Freee Photo Editing Programs I have ever used"

This editing program has many useful features & does a great job with enhancing & correcting problems caused by digital cameras.

The red-eye feature is terrible, so I have to use Paint.net for that whenever I have red-eyes. And the reduce noise is not as good as Paint.net. So whenever I have those two problems, I use Paint.net first & then PhotoScape.
Summary
One of the best things I love about PhotoScape is it's reduce size feature. I do a lot of uploading to a Social site and pics have to be under a certain size or the site won't let you upload. If the photo you edited is very large, then the re-size feature will let you reduce it to whatever size you want--if the photo still does not look small enough, then just hit the undo icon at the bottom of the program on the right hand side and the photo will return to the size it was before you re-sized it. You can keep choosing a different size until you find one that looks right to you. But what you have to remember, is that after you re-size and finish editing the photo, and you click on Save at the bottom right side of the page, when another window comes up to give you the option to either "Save" or "Save As" to choose the "Save As" and then it will give you the opportunity to save the image file in a JPEG file in the drop down menu under the file name, which will reduce the size of your photo even more if it was originally a BMP file. One of the best parts of saving a photo that you made changes to, is that PhotoScape will save your original image into another folder, titled, "Originals" so you never loose your original picture. In the "Filter" feature, there are all kinds of options you can use to do different things with your photos--such as making a "cube" with your favorite photo. Family members just love this when you make one of someone they love and send it to them. Also, one of the features that is rather fun to use in the Filter feature, is the option that gives you to make a cartoon out of one of your pictures. I have a whole folder of those on my Social site that friends and family members love to look at. This feature is especially handy if you have any "unfix-able" photos because when you make a cartoon of those, it doesn't matter what the original picture looked like-thus, you have found a way of saving a picture that normally you would have just deleted when it could not be fixed. Monogramming is another way to save a photo that is unfix-able. You can also put frames around your photos & also add text above someone in a balloon (all types of balloons). I only wished that they had more choices of Frames that you can use. Oh, one more thing I found useful-in the Filter feature, is something called, "Region out of Focus" and this is where you can fix individual errors--such as if a photo shows you that there is a place on the photo that is a lot lighter than say the rest of the photo, then you can click on Region out of Focus and you will see a type of cross icon placed somewhere on that particular photo. Just move the icon over to the place that you want to fix, and then on the left hand side you will see a list of options such as darkening, lighter, sharpen, noise, etc--just choose the option that you need to correct that particular area that you moved the icon to. You can select how much correcting you need with the "leave" slider and how big or small of an area needs correcting by using the size lever. Just remember that if the chose you choose seems to be the exact opposite of what it says it will do, then scroll down toward the bottom under all the levers, where it says, "reverse the area" and click this. Once you have the size and the amount of effect you want, then click OK. When you see the changes on your big screen, if it is not like you thought it was suppose to look or did not improve the picture, then just hit the undo button down in the right hand corner of the screen and your image will appear as before the changes took place. And the cropping tool is the easiest to use crop tool I have ever used--square or round--& you can use the handles of the croppine area to move exactly how much you want to crop without having to start over your cropping if you made a mistake. There is more to like about this free photo editing program than there is to dislike it. I only gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because of the lousy red-eye feature. Be sure to try it and experiment around with it--you won't loose any of your original photos by experimenting because it will always save the originals for you.

I've used Irfanview for years, and now I have been fooling around with PhotoScape on this rainy day in Albuquerque. I am extremely pleased how easy it is to use and how many features it has. Irfanview will add colored borders to pics, but PhotoScape adds that and margins, borders and an interesting selection of frames. I will continue with Irfanview, my old friend, for bulk and mass album/pictures handling, but PhotoScape will let me "fine tune" a favorite pic. I can do all the Irfanview adjustments plus add "Bloom," etc., and what really sold me was the easy quick way to add multicolored captions directly to the pics. MSPaint doesn't do that well nor does Irfanview. I've taken the liberty of posting a PhotoScape-enhanced pic I did just this morning:

I know I am going to love this program, and it allows even a dummy like me to be endlessly creative in enhancing pictures, graphics, banners and so for. For those of you unfamiliar with handling saturation or hue or contrast there are auto-adjusts for you to try. All the changes happen directly on the chosen photo as you watch so you can approve/disapprove instantly. You can "undo" just that change or "undo all," and start over with the original. Don't be afraid to click on tools that look like a graph and move things around, insert values, set colors and fonts, etc., then watch your picture change...you don't have to understand "saturation," you'll see it in action.
I'm one of those who years ago downloaded a trial of Adobe's Photoshop and boy, did it make me feel dumb with all its toolbars and menus. I'm not a rocket scientist! You don't have to be either to learn quickly and enjoy this Adobe offering, PhotoScape. I can't say enough nice things about it. Don't be scared....! Try it! -
"AWESOME for quick spiffy ups of your images"

It is fast loading, easy to navigate, not hard to figure out for the beginner. I use photoshop but I like the quick cute templates I can add to my finished photoshop work.
Cons
would be great to have more quick ready to use framing options, like more colorful ones, or themed. They have christmas what about the other holidays? (just an idea, I know it is free lol)
