A great download for the harried party planner, Perfect TablePlan can help organize anything from a wedding reception to a corporate dinner. Start by building a list of participants and grouping them by personal likings, food preferences, or shared interests.

If two people absolutely shouldn't sit together, you can account for that too. Next create the seating layout, choosing round, square, or rectangular tables as needed. The colorful three-pane interface is a bit busy, but a thoughtful quick-start guide and a 30-minute tutorial are most welcome. The help file even provides rules of thumb for formal seating. The free trial covers up to 30 guests, without a time limit.

All in all, Perfect TablePlan is powerful enough for professionals and straightforward enough for event novices. Would-be Martha Stewarts will take to it like balsamic vinegar to a rocket salad.
