"Only Get PerfectDisk if You Want The Best"

    November 27, 2008  |   By Harley1986

    Version: PerfectDisk 2008

    Pros

The free windows defragger is worth every penny (joke). Diskeeper is decent but a bit intrusive and never finishes (I don't like things always always running) For me, PerfectDisk gives me the best of everything that I need. I'm a perfectionist!!

    Cons

I'm sure I will find something - just give me time:)

    Summary

What do you want? It's a defragger and I just picked the best. And i've been doing this since Gates was in diapers.

    "Worst of the lot"

    November 25, 2008  |   By Dch48

    Version: PerfectDisk 2008

    Pros

Nothing about this is better than the Windows tool. I have nothing good to say.

    Cons

This program massively fragmented any files larger than 512mb that were not previously fragmented. Trying to defragment only those files resulted in them having 2-3 more fragments than before it started and scattered my other files all over the disk.

    Summary

Like I said, simply the worst defrag utility I have ever tried. It would be better named Imperfect Disk. The Windows tool works faster and better. The boot time defrag also does not work and resulted in the black screen telling me Windows had failed to start properly.

"Serious incompatibility with ZoneAlarm Security Suite."

    November 18, 2008  |   By MWJL

    Version: PerfectDisk 2008

    Pros

    MFT defragmentation. Relatively fast.

    Cons

Serious flaw - incompatible with ZoneAlarm Security Suite, which is a major, highly respected and used security solution. Attempts to defrag are frozen during the "analysis" phase. No know solution exists that I can find that will work on my system.

    Summary

I was enjoying using PD9 until one day the above mentioned freezing occured. Information on discussions forums and FAQs from both ZA and Raxco site incompatibility problems between PD and ZA that cause freezing during drive analysis. I uninstalled PD9 and downloaded the free trial of PD2008. No resolution to the freezing issue. Buyer beware.

"One of THE best on the market!"

    November 15, 2008  |   By BobArch

    Version: PerfectDisk 2008

    Pros

Been a PD user since 2003. PD has always worked without a hitch for me and I?ve always updated when new versions hit the market. Support and Sales staff's concern for clients has always being proactive, and reactive when needed. They DO listen!

    Cons

Cannot come with anything... every new version is better than the previous.

    Summary

Based on previous use, I look forward to seeing the next version, PD2009 Professional. Can't imagine what they can add to an already great product.

"I don't think this programme is as quick as described"

    November 11, 2008  |

    Version: PerfectDisk 2008

    Pros

It is quite easy to use.

    Cons

I have found so far that Perfect Disc has not performed a def rag in 1 pass.It has to be repeated over and over? I have several days to find out if I am doing something
    wrong,so I will see.

    Summary

I liked what IE7Hate.Had to say on June 10.I thought that I might be able to download
the programme he talks about to see if he makes a lot of sense whilst I try to see if I
    can master Perfect Disc.
    Many Thanks In Anticipation ggregg48@yahoo.co.uk

    "The best ever"

    November 11, 2008  |   By cmilhaus

    Version: PerfectDisk 2008

    Pros

Easy to operate, great "set it and forget it" ability efficient, and easy on the system resources. Great boot time defrag of system files, plus terrific customer and technical support. PerfectDisk is a winner!!!

    Cons

    None that I know of

    Summary

II must admit, I spent a few years going back and forth between Perfect Disk and other products on the market. In the end however, it was the suburb technology, and the outstanding customer support service that won my heart and my computers loyalty. With each new release, this product just keeps getting better
A huge + for me is the fact that they are a local company and I really appreciate the opportunity to support local technology-especially when it is as good as this product

    Version: PerfectDisk 2008

    Pros

    nothing at all

    Cons

it tried to be really clever with a video driver. I thought I was old enough to be sensible but I responded yes to let it do its magic ............................ and spent the next 24 hopurs rebuilding my PC. US based support was truly laughable.

    Summary

    Pathetic support

    "Top notch software and support."

    November 8, 2008  |   By dsilvia

    Version: PerfectDisk 2008

    Pros

Trim, easy to navigate, GUI. Comprehensive features and functions. Very reliable. Great support.

    Cons

Hmm... you've got me there! Cannot think of any!;)

    Summary

Over the years, I've used many defragmentation utilities, from Peter Norton's early Norton Utilities for the burgeoning PC market to the highly sophisticated packages on today's market.

In my opinion, there are only 2 disk maintenance packages worth purchasing: Diskeeper from Diskeeper Corporation and PerfectDisk by Raxco Software. They're competitively priced for Home/Home Business Professional use. But there most all the similarity ends.

PerfectDisk, far and away, outshines Diskeeper for functionality, diversity, speed, and reliability. Now, that's only my opinion, but anyone would be hard pressed to prove otherwise. I could cite categories of functionality and features, but instead just take a look at the product comparisons at each vendor's site:

    http://www.raxco.com/charts/value_comparison.cfm
    http://www.raxco.com/charts/pro_comparedkpro.cfm
    http://www.diskeeper.com/diskeeper/home/dk2008comparisonchart-home.asp

There should be at least 2 things you notice in these comparisons. 1, Raxco does across the board value comparison. 2, Raxco does a comprehensive comparison to Diskeeper. A third might be readily apparent: Raxco does a fine job of objective comparisons with other packages, especially Diskeeper. Maybe that is why Diskeeper only compare their own editions?

Editions and price wise, PerfectDisk Pro's price is $39.99 and is bottom of the line. Diskeeper Pro retails for $49.95 and is #2 in their line. PerfectDisk Server's price is $99.99 and is top of the line. Diskeeper EnterpriseServer costs $999.95 and is top of the line. PerfectDisk has 2 editions in its line. Diskeeper has 5 editions, PerfectDisk 2. PerfectDisk Pro ($30.99) exceeds Diskeeper's #3 ($99.95). PerfectDisk Server ($99.99) exceeds Diskeeper #5 ($999.95). Diskeeper has "satellite" products costing up to $199.95. PerfectDisk offers the same functionality FREE!

I find Diskeeper's user interface less friendly than PerfectDisk's. It's very cluttered and outdated presentation, information is disorganized and With a lot of explanation verbiage. Diskeeper uses the much older SDI (Single Document Interface) paradigm which quickly clutters up your Desktop. Looking at current processes in a good task management tool (i.e., not Windows Task Manager), reveals the source of this ancient architecture. Diskeeper is implemented as a Microsoft Management Console "Snap-In" or .msc file. Windows uses MMC to implement its Control Panel and it's overall design and presentation has not changed for some time. So, Diskeeper "inherits" all the foibles of MMC.

PerfectDisk's model is not "state of the art", using the more organized, newer tabbed MDI (Multiple Document Interface). It's adequate to the purpose, keeping things collected in a single "mini-desktop", more streamlined, less cluttered, and so, easier to navigate.

PerfectDisk gives me all the latitude I need to do on demand and scheduled defragmentation, plus continuous idle time "stealth" defragmentation and boot time system file defragmentation. Boot time defragmentation keeps system files, MFT (Master File Table), hybernation file, pagefile, and metadata, cleaned up and efficient. I need do little on demand defragmentation. At any given moment, disk analysis shows fragmentation is 0%.

I have Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit. PerfectDisk is a true 64-bit implementation, not "compatible". Others are compatibles, excepting Diskeeper because of its marriage to MMC. Being a standalone 64-bit, PerfectDisk is able to take advantage of added benefits for resource intensive applications, and multi-core processors (I have Intel Core 2 Quad). With no added baggage from Windows, it's trim indeed!

I have from the outset had problems with some of Diskeepers' policies. For example, it rubs me the wrong when Diskeeper inserts itself into the system as _the_ Disk Defragmenter, supplanting Windows Disk Defragmenter. I see no purpose in this, since it just encourage users to think Windows Disk Defragmenter is better than it is!

Raxco has a wonderfully professional and dedicated support team! Support for software, has become an industry wide joke. You get someone, barely more computer literate than the average user, who's been given a knowledgebase and FAQ and scans for keywords to use for searching, then fire off the resultant boilerplate to the user as "support"! You will not get this from Raxco. Over the years, dealing with both Raxco Software and Diskeeper Corporation, Raxco has always looked at any submissions and actually read them, not scanned for keywords. Taking a holistic view of the issue, they try to identify the cause, and usually come up with a solution, taking 2-3 days, usually far less. I cannot say enough about these people because they obviously believe, that their reputation is more important than anything else, certainly more than capital gains! They are the front line in keeping the Raxco reputation on a par with their products' quality.

    "a little too much..."

    November 6, 2008  |   By drmengel

    Version: PerfectDisk 2008

    Pros

this is a case of over enginering. the does too much I thought it would be easy to use but had a tough time figure out how to use it. and when I did I could have run other defraggers already. it does do its job and if you like all the extras buy it.

    Cons

like I said before its too much for what it really does I dont need that many tools in a defragmenting tool . I dont plan on keeping this one.

    Summary

    Ive seen better .
