    Version: Pegasus Mail 4.51

    "Unstable version"

    by orangeed2009 on August 3, 2009

Pros: Have been using the product for years, suits my business and personal use, and
has all the bells and whistles to get the job done, and I don't even use all of
    the functionality available.

Cons: This latest version crashes quite often. Mr. Harris rewrote the code for it and then
proposes to stop updates unless users fork over some money. If this version
worked better than the last version, I would say "ok". Now looking to replace it.

Summary: Especially like the options in attaching files: use recent file, recent directory, favourite
directory and so forth. As well as saving text files for duplicate messages, it is easy
to paste in the text. A little difficult to add email POP3 mailboxes, however. U.S. support is rather too condescending for me to ask for help again. In earlier versions, which I will be returning to, whenever the program is closed by windows shutting down, it is irritating to have to unlock it to run again and then change to preview mode as well in order to get back to where you were before it was closed.
The lastest version shows the same error message but does not require you to click on preview mode. When installing pmail on another or replacement computer, I have not found a way to transfer emails and address books reliably or at all. If the information is in the help file somewhere, it is difficult to decipher. I am unable just to find the appropriate files to copy and paste, but perhaps that doesn't even work that way.
I began using a mac on which I use Eudora, and to compare the two programs, I would not like to use Eudora for my business, as it does not have the bells and whistles of Pmail.
My pet peeve with all of these programs is that the field for names is always one field that they expect you to use first name- last name order. What good is indexing on first name, I want to know ? Pmail doesn't like a comma between last, first name, so it appears to be a problem not addressed by the software developer. Usually I put the company name in this field as this matches my work flow, although there is a mix of both in my address book.
