"Can't do basic things properly"

July 9, 2014 | By Superstitious

Version: PeaZip (64 bit) 5.3.1

Pros

It is free.

Cons

I tried to unzip 54 zip files by right-clicking and choosing extract to folder, most of which were only 1-3K large, and Windows ran out of RAM, tried to increase the swap file, and PeaZip threw up a ton of error messages saying it was out of memory. What kind of unzipper is too stupid to unzip the files one at a time?

1. Create the new folder
2. Unzip file #1.
3. Unzip file #2.
4. Etc.

Instead, it looks like it's launching a copy of itself for each file and trying to have all the copies running before it starts to unzip anything! What the heck?

Summary

It may have OpenCandy. I found it with Malwarebytes on machines I installed PeaZip on.

"Great but still behind others."

June 15, 2014 | By iamnotatroll

Version: PeaZip (64 bit) 5.3.1

Pros

Great UI.
Frequent updates.
Many compression and almost all extraction formats.

Cons

Slower than 7zip and winrar.
Compression and extraction progress is not shown properly like winrar.
Cant extract rar5.

Summary

Great app but need many improvement as many users noted. Great UI but change the logo. Make it faster. Has potential to be my main archive app if you fixed above issues.

"Does exactly what it says on the tin!"

August 13, 2013 | By ansuk

Version: PeaZip (64 bit) 5.0.1

Pros

Works on Windows 8
Simple installation
Simple interface
Works with .zip, .rar, .7z and just about everything else

Cons

Packaged with other rubbish such as Amazon toolbar etc but you have to understand that they have to make some money from somewhere and including third party software does that. You have the option to NOT install these things though!

Summary

Does exactly as advertised and works perfectly on Win8. Very simple and easy to use and even uses nice icons unlike others such as 7zip.
Don't forget to decline installation of the other bundled rubbish unless you want it!

"Would not run - unhandled exception errors"

August 10, 2013 | By An Old Fart

Version: PeaZip (64 bit) 5.0.1

Pros

None - the software would not run, it only created errors.

Cons

I tried to install the 64-bit version (running WIN7ultimate 64bit) - seemed to install fine, but when I ran it I got unhandled exception errors that multiplied every time I tried to close the error window.

Summary

I can't rate the performance of this software since I was never able to run it successfully.

"Works perfectly"

May 29, 2013 | By rasheed12824

Version: PeaZip (64 bit) 4.9.2

Pros

- extracts numerous types of compressed files, including RAR, ZIP, 7z & exe
- super-fast extraction
- ultra compact compression, esp with the 7z format
- FREE and open source

Cons

Sometimes archives with foreign language filenames may not extract or give an error message. I just rename them in English and they open/extract perfectly.

"SPAM ALERT 2"

March 23, 2013 | By Kazeneko

Version: PeaZip (64 bit) 4.9

Pros

Ummm, no pros at all anymore! >.<
This used to be a great unzipping app.

Cons

Loaded with crap software. And, good luck getting it off of your computer, as it creates literally hundreds of registry keys. Sadly, system restore does not get rid of it, at least under Windows 8.

To quote an already well written review:
We just upgraded to the latest version and SURPRISE: The developers have gone over to the dark side. The installer included a search engine called FINDR from conduit.com. and now we have severe problems. We have found every instance of 'conduit' on the hard drive and the registry and it still shows up.
If you google 'how to remove conduit from your computer', you will get hundreds of hits.

Summary

Avoid this software at all costs! You will likely need to wipe your hard drive to get rid of it, unless some nice programmer takes the time to write a remover app.

I'm personally going to contact CNET and Sourceforge to try and get this removed or at least listed as it should be, garbage filled software!

As for now, thankfully, the excellent 7-zip does not contain any garbage within it's installer.

"SPAM<---ALERT"

March 8, 2013 | By Data_Dude2

Version: PeaZip (64 bit) 4.9

Pros

We have used this product (32, 64, & standalone) for years in all of our computers and found that the software is #1

Cons

Summary

We have now removed PeaZip from all of our computers and posted this review on our blog and customer newsletter. We are especially disappointed in CNET & SourceForge for promoting this kind of hoax.

"Works excellently"

January 8, 2013 | By asyouwish

Version: PeaZip (64 bit) 4.8

Pros

Contains all file-archiving & -compression-feature one might want to use, including file-encryption.

Cons

Might contain a spam-installation-link at software-installation, which one can avoid via custom-install. I would prefer rather to pay a £ or two.
File-encryption-strength is excellent, but it would be great, if using its encryption was a bit easier.

Summary

I rate it 9 out of 10.
