"Can't do without this utility"
Version: Path Finder 5.1.3
Summary

Path Finder (along with Default Folder X) is indispensable. The advantageous functions and time-saving features of these programs make them among the *best* investments I have ever made. Path Finder is almost the only way I navigate files and folders and the rich search tools and side-by-side panes, and drop box...oh, just try it. You'll aghree. -
"Still no per window setting"

"Still Awesome and keeps getting better"
Version: Path Finder 5.0.9
Summary
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
This program is simply amazing and always getting better. More and more I find myself using PathFinder instead of the Finder. Sure, it is missing a couple of things we are used to on the Finder that are simple but very useful.
The feature list is incredible, PathFinder is quite a piece of work that goes way beyond what the Finder can do so I find it incredibly indispensable for me. It saves the time it would take to use other programs to accomplish some tasks (such as opening Terminal, TextEdit, Preview and many more) so I do all my file management with PathFinder and I no longer use a lot of utilities that cost me time to open them, do a quick thing and close them.
When you first try it, it may look a little complicated due to the myriad of features and different look compared to the Finder. But as you start using it you start to see the huge benefits of this program.
Recommended 200% for power users and developers. -
"I don't want to hear about Finder anymore!"
Version: Path Finder 5.0
Pros
The Drop Stack is just the beginning of the fantastically smart features of this product!
Cons
The search box, for some reason, seems not to work as well as Spotlight itself...
Summary
Stop grumbling and start using Path Finder!

"huge disappointment"
Version: Path Finder 5.0
Summary
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
No more shelf in the sidebar - have to use one of those ugly drawers if you like a shelf.
This new sidebar thing looks and functions just like Apple's Finder and that is lame on so many levels for something aspiring to be a Finder replacement. I understand that people wanted the network stuff but this was not the way to get there.
The crash reporter (which I never once saw in the last year of using the previous version) doesn't actually send the report and instead always prompts me to copy and paste the message into a new message to them and I'm just too busy to be composing and sending error messages to these guys 5-10 times a day.
I believe the previous version had a feedback link in the menu. Not sure because everything was so cool that I couldn't think of anything to improve upon. I have so much feedback and now there isn't any feedback link. Figures.
None of the new "features" are that great and too much functionality was lost. I'm going back to 4.8.5 which is fricking AWESOME BTW. Changed my life for the better. I hope someday version 5 can be all that Path Finder is capable of being. -
"Nice upgrade"
Version: Path Finder 5.0

I use Path Finder, all day long, so a $20 upgrade was not an issue. The dual pane browser is sweet. Other interface polishes make it worthwhile. Nice job CocoaTech. -
"Doesn't replace the Finder...unfortunately"
Version: Path Finder 4.8.5
Summary
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I have been using Path Finder for years now, but it still pis**s me off that it doesn't really replace the Finder. When applications call the Finder directly, to save a file for example, you get Finder windows popping-up and this is *REALLY* annoying.
Also currently you canâ??t "browse" network shares, you have to connect to them first (CMD-K) and once you are connected (e.g. cifs://yourmachine for Windows-based shares), you see the network disk in Path Finder.
I would like for the Path Finder crew to stop adding marginal features and get rid of these fundamental issues.
Otherwise I'm very happy with it, works just fine with OS X 10.5 on my early '08 Mac Pro. -
"preview doesn't work"

"unfortunately no shared disk support"
Version: Path Finder 4.8.4
Summary

Used to use PF all the time but unfortunately it does not support bonjour shared disk which do not automatically show up on left hand site and that makes it somewhat useless for me.
It needs to be at least on par with the finder but in this regards it's lacking behind
