"O.K. for little kids, a bit of a joke for older ones"
Version: ParentalControl Bar 5.0.1.457
Pros
Good control provided for pre-schoolers and young or non-techie grade-schoolers. Plus, provides a "kid tracker" feature that lists visited sites to the parent when browser is not in "child mode."
Cons
Way to easy to foil for someone with rudimentary knowledge of how Windows programs operate.
Summary
I'm not going to tell some kid how to by-pass this system here, but if they are researching it, they'll probably figure it out pretty quickly. It took me 60 seconds and no research to find what I needed to not only list exceptions to the banned sites, but to also erase any record of sites visited from the "kid tracker" In short, this is a good program to monitor your grade-schooler, but not your junior-high or high-schooler. And it's actually a little dangerous to have this product out there for parents who know LESS about their computers than there kids in a "false sense of security" sort of way. A combination of this product and not letting your kid have a computer behind closed doors in his/her room is the best option in my book.
A word to the developers (I tried to do so directly, but they don't list an email address) ... one word .... ENCRYPTION. Very simple way of resolving the main vulnerability of the product. -
"a way to turn it off..."
Version: ParentalControl Bar 5.0.1.457
Pros

Cons
tun it off by going to control panel... internet options... and go to content advisor and disable it... no way to delete it but at least u can shut it off!!!

"Download if you have loads of time to waste"
Version: ParentalControl Bar 5.0.1.457
Pros
Can't think of any
Cons
Horrible software which punishes parents, while not doing it's intended job. No proper support or help, specially to get rid of it. Believe me- it's not easy to get rid off. Till you fish around the net and find the default password.
Summary
DROVE ME CRAZY TILL I GOT IT OUT OF MY SYSTEM!!!

"Love this parent toolbar!"
Version: ParentalControl Bar 5.0.1.457
Pros
Easy to install, allows me as the parent to allow or block sites as needed. As a parent I can see what sites my daughter tried to load. The previous password problem has been fixed, now it's working great.
Cons
Some sites require me as the parent to allow secondary pages. Once I allowed the 2nd page on Nick Jr for example, it allowed all pages of that site. Only works on single user set up. It wouldn't work on my pc with more than one user account set up.
Summary
This is a perfect product for keeping a close eye on my children and I like that it allows me to determine if a site is appropriate or not. You Tube is blocked by default, but I can allow it if I want to or block it when I am away.
It's easy to use and understand. It keeps track of sites my children try to load and tells me if they were blocked or allowed. For a FREE product, it's worth the time and effort of setting up the block/allow lists. Thanks for a working toolbar, the password problem from previous versions has been repaired too, can't forget that! -
"ok if you dont need to use internet"
Version: ParentalControl Bar 5.0.1.457
Pros

Cons
every web site needed to be allowed manually

"CAN'T UNINSTALL! REQUIRES A Pass that I did not choose"
Version: ParentalControl Bar 5.0.1.457
Pros
Blocks Everything. Easier to just cancel your Internet.
Cons
I tried this out on the computer of a friend who has kids. It blocks EVERYTHING! So I tried to uninstall. The uninstall requires a different password than the one used for the parent! I can't get rid of this.
Avoid at all costs. -
"I had no problems initially. MS updates caused problems"
Version: ParentalControl Bar 5.0.1.457
Pros
Works with IE and Foxfire, User friendly (after installation)
Cons
Will not load with IE8 or Foxfire 3.5. The password to remove the software and switch modes were not synced. Could not remove.
Summary
All of my problems started after upgrading to IE8. I could not switch between parent and child mode logged in a regular user, had to be an admin. I could not remove the program. The password was out of sync. I reinstalled the software without removing. Loaded Foxfire 3 and configured for Foxfire. Now works with Foxfire 3 and IE8. Might try to upgrade to Foxfire 3.5 to see if it still works (It's Free, expect a few problems).

"Not very good."
Version: ParentalControl Bar 5.0.1.457
Pros
Easy to use and set up.
Cons
Tends to block a lot of unnecessary sites.
The one big issue is once a webpage is accepted and loaded, it blinks two or three times.Summary
Has potential, but just too wonky for my liking.
I have installed "K9 Web Protection 4.0.288" and this is a fantastic software. Far above others I have tried. -
"Horrible--avoid at all costs"
Version: ParentalControl Bar 5.0.1.457
Pros
Nothing at all.
Cons
Can't uninstall!! Thanks for heads up on Revo. It was the only thing that got this off my machine. Stupid toolbar blocks everything. Even when I approve a site (Lego.com). It only approved the homepage, not all secondary pages. Worthless.

"free product, good to block adult sites."
Version: ParentalControl Bar 5.0.1.457
Pros
Easy to install, easy to add sites to a safe list. I like that I can block sites of my choice. If I don't want the toolbar when i surf, I just disable it under my add-ons and then I enable it when I leave the computer for my child.
Cons
Had a trouble with Firefox, but working with IE7 so far so good.
