While this program has flaws, Paraben's Deck of Cards compensates for them with an extensive choice of solitaire varieties and some interesting features. You can filter solitaire types by skill level, difficulty, and type. When you find one you like, you can send it into your Favorites list. You can choose among several decks, backgrounds, and colors, though some choices are disabled in the trial version. Instead of an undo function, you can record a situation before making risky choices and return after any number of moves.

The publisher sprinkles generous tool tips throughout the program, which comes in handy on the splash screen, where you have to hit X, rather than the more intuitive checkmark, to play in trial mode. Unlike many card suites, double-clicking doesn't send cards to the foundation. You can view the rules only after you start a game, not on the selection screen. The audio can be grating, especially the victory theme. The trial version displays registration reminders too often, even launching a Web browser window upon closing. Still, the lifesaving record function makes Paraben's Deck of Cards worth trying.
