Publisher's description
From JoWood Productions :Panzer Elite Action follows the story of three tank commanders and their crew. The German commander, pumped by the fast success in Poland and France, moves on to the Eastern Front and the brink of victory with the taking of Stalingrad. We meet the Russian commander in desperate straits as he helps defend Stalingrad, and follow him as the tide turns against the Germans and he joins the massive tank battle of Kursk. The American commander enters the war on the Normandy Beachhead on D-Day. After the struggle for the Bocage, he defends the German outbreak at the Battle of the Bulge, and then drives on to the victorious crossing of the Rhine. Experience the biggest battles of World War II, from Stalingrad to Normandy, with this tank simulation.
The demo level is a specially crafted mission which does not appear in the game itself called Mission Zero. You play the commander of an allied platoon and you have to attack enemy tanks, fortifications, 88s and other German held positions. You'll encounter a variety of different tanks--like the famous Panther and even a Tiger--in challenging different settings. The player can, like in the full game, give his team members different commands, like "attack my target", "stop" or "flank". Destroy buildings, blow Panzers to pieces, drive over trees, even turn a whole village to rubble--enjoy the destructive power of a WWII-Tank.

Version: Panzer Elite Action: Fields of Glory demo
Pros: For four weeks after I downloaded this game I was able to play against others online. It was great. Hours of fun. Easy to play once you got used to the controls. Nice Graphics, Great Sound
Cons: Then JOWOOD (Gemany) shut down the server. It is a useless game when you can't play against/with 5 or more players. Jowwod promised to get a server going, but never did. The eventually stopped answering emails. To bad.

"(Demo) Best of its kind I've seen."
Pros: This a splendid looking tank sim, that achieves a perfect balance between the 'fiddlyness' of a more faithful but complex simulation; and the unrealistic oversimplification of an arcade 'shoot 'em up'. Very easy to learn the controls for deploying your own tank and those of your unit. The tank is controlled with the WASD keys, and the mouse aims the turret-mounted guns. A neat little map gives details of your position, range of view, direction of travel, enemy objectives, supply depots and terrain features. There are also readouts to indicate damage, air-strikes and ammunition remaining. The 'binocular' viewing feature enables you to stop at a secure 'hull-down' position and survey the battlefield to check for an enemy ambush or counter-attack, and call in an air-strike if necessary. Maintenance, repair, refueling and rearming can be done by merely parking next to a depot.
Graphic & audio detail is very atmospheric and excellent in almost every respect, with beautifully rendered vehicles, trees, buildings, and convincing 'fog of war'.
AI isn't too bad, with the enemy's armour (Panzer IVs, Panthers, and Tigers) steadily increasing in both their cunning and lethality. Hits from an 88mm gun will turn you into scrap very quickly. If you are destroyed, you at least have the option of returning to your last checkpoint rather than start from scratch.
Gameplay is exciting, as you have to not only formulate strategy, and tactically deploy your unit, but drive and man the guns in the pell-mell of battle too. Accuracy is increased if you are stationary, as the rocking motion of the tank can cause you to miss; not to mention having to calculate fall of shot and the deflection required if both the enemy's tank and your own are moving in different directions. Just like the ace tankers of WWII though, with practice you'll be able to shoot on the move.
All-in-all, I think it will become the 'IL-2 Sturmovik' of PC tank sims.
Cons: Not many niggles really. The graphics can sometimes get a bit fuzzy as the game puts your video card through it's paces.
As it is controlled by the mouse, the only viewing option available is from directly behind the turret in line with the gun. It would be good to be able to see things from other perspectives too, such as the driver's, as when crashing through trees you can easily be exposing yourself to enemy fire and getting shot to bits in the process; whilst your own viewpoint from way back behind the tank is still totally obscured by foliage. A movie mode to replay the mission would be good too.
Some of the objects on the battlefield behave and interact oddly. For instance, you can crash right through a stoutly-built stone cottage; but not a small garden wall, and your tank just bounces straight off an abandoned Waco glider, which was made of plywood over a lightweight steel frame!
