"Unable to overwrite PDA vs DesKtop."
Version: Palm Desktop 6.2
Pros
Upgrade for the Vita
Cons
The gray look is tough on the eyes and mind! The main issue is that you are unable to syn with computer or PDA overwriting each other. This becomes a problem if one source becomes corrupt. I wished I had not downloaded this "update".
Summary
In retrospect I wished I did not install this program

"In hindsight, would not have replaced with 6.2."
Version: Palm Desktop 6.2
Pros
Ability to specify criteria for synching, e.g., device overrides desktop or vice versa. But I only needed to use this feature because of synching problems that I ran into with the new version.
Cons
Post upgrading, could not sync my calendar. Also lost all datebook listings going bact to 2003. After synching my address book, it didn't read renamed categories properly. This version loses color coded dates, and is not as stable as old version.
Summary
My expectation for upgraded software is that it should be more stable and have some added features that would enhance its functionality. For me, uh uh. I was never able to fully synch my calendar; it kept on freezing during the process. I then noticed that about 9 months of my calendar for 2008 got wiped out. All blank.
I paid the tech support fee and talked to 2 techs. One got me to download a db diagnostic program and found that somewhere one or more of my calendar entries did not have a closure time. The tech explained that this glitch would prevent proper synching. The clean up program on the application seemed to have found the error, but it was not able to eradicate the problem after multiple tries. I ended up purging my calendar to clear to glitch and lost all past data since my Palm Pilot days in 2003. In retrospect, I probably should have re-installed the previous verson, but I rationaliized that I don't go back in time on my calendar that much since I retired a few years ago.
I also noticed that the categories for my address entries went arwy with the new software. I renamed and added categories, and after synching, a whole series of entries got re-categorized to "Quicklist." I had to go back and change them to the proper categories.
One new feature will allow you to have the PDA override the desktop or vice versa. I ended up needing to use it during my trials and tribulations, but I would not have needed to use it if my synching had been successful in the first place. Oh, well.
BTW, I do miss the ability to color code the events on the calendar.
I could have done something improperly after installing the new software, but if I had the opportunity to upgrade again, I wouldn't. -
"Diasappointment!"
Version: Palm Desktop 6.2
Pros
It fixed one bug. V4.2 refused to let me set a task with no due date, instead filling in a due date of 12/31/2031. This made it hard to organize tasks the way I want.
Cons
See the bottom-line summary; I can't fit all the Cons into 250 characters.
Summary
One, there's no color any more. The whole Desktop UI with only a couple tiny exceptions is a big sheet of gray. Two, also color-related, they removed the ability to associate colors with categories in the calendar. I used to have work stuff in green, personal stuff in red. Easy to tell what's what at a single glance, but now it's gone. Three, they removed a very useful function from Tasks - the ability to set a recurring due date tied to a specific time period after completion of the previous Task. Example, haircut every ten weeks, but one time you let it go 11 weeks. Upon finally getting the haircut and marking task complete, Desktop could be set to automatically re-set the task for another ten weeks out. This whole thing has completely, totally disappeared in 6.2.

"Need it for Vista...otherwise stay away"
Version: Palm Desktop 6.2
Pros
The only positive about this version is that it supports Windows Vista. That's it
Cons
no-Vista systems: you can't control the colors of your interface, it 'hangs' a lot, it lost the categories I set up in Desktop, HotSync Manager won't let you control whether the Desktop or Device controls the data, very slow, less intuitive.
Summary
After 2 weeks, I went back to v4. Unless you are running Vista on your computer, stay away from this version. It has less functionality, less stability, no UI customization and is a memory hog
