"Terrible, ghastly crap."

Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
Mac OSX 10.3.9 and Palm Desktop do NOT get along any more, the "update" installer (last rev'd in 2004!) fials without explanation, and I can't sync.

Logging in as root makles no difference and frankly I don't have the time to f*ck with this stuff. This is simply a rotten piece of software.

Inexcusably, abominably bad.

"Like it"

Had some initial work figuring out conduits but once I found it here:
http://kb.palmone.com/SRVS/CGI-BIN/WEBCGI.EXE?New,Kb=PalmSupportKB,ts=Palm_External2001,case=obj(25802)
I love the palm desktop.. I tried Ical, entourage, daytimer and a few other and decided desktop had most of the features I want... especially the integration of different calendar views with todo's and view of color coded untimed events, easy switch to memo, address and a linking feature to connect items.
I'm on Tiger now and all is working... I see I maybe should have rev b becauces it says good for tiger.

"Works for some of us, even with Tiger"

Summary

I have been using this version for some time now. I upgraded my G5 to Tiger, expecting the worse, and other than crashing during the very first post-update sync, it has been syncing flawlessly between my G5 and Tungsten T5, even with the new iSync architecture.

For those who plug Missing Sync, I would say (1) it isn't free (2) I have tried installing it on a couple of occasions and it has buggered up my setup in a big way. I'll never install it again unless I am forced to.

"Just won't work..."

Summary

I've used Palm Desktop on my G4 TiBook (OS 9.2.2) without a problem. No such luck on my G5 desktop (OS 10.4.1) though, as I can't even get the app to launch. The install seems to have gone OK, but double-clicking on the Palm Desktop app gets me an "unexpected end of file" error then the program quits. It's been over a year since the last update from Palm- you'd think they'd be "Tiger ready" by this point in time.

"4.21 hates the Tiger"

May 14, 2005  |  By VersionTrackerUserOpinion

 |  Version: Palm Desktop 4.2.1

Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I regret to say that Palm Desktop 4.21 just is NOT compatible with Mac OS 10.4 Tiger. I had to resort to installing Mac OS 10.3 Panther on another drive and, lo and behold, Palm Desktop installed fine and perfect. Until Palm admits that they need to step up and update Palm Desktop for 10.4 compatibility, I'll have to resort to syncing my Tungsten E with the alternate OS on my other drive.

I'm sure they'll get more complaints on this in the near future, unless we all use the Missing Sync shareware, which is no better - but that's another story...

"I like Desktop"

February 21, 2005  |  By swenk22_dotmac

 |  Version: Palm Desktop 4.2.1

Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
As a new mac user I dreaded leaving the windows environ where for years I've used Lotus Organizer and Palm products. End result is Palm desktop really does end up having almost everything I was used to and works well.
In windows the palm desktop is "a dog" with basic functionality. I was surprised to find the mac version is different. I found desktop has the closest to the feel and response to the Lotus Organizer- nice view of daily appointments, todo's, and events with color coding (category) and linkage between addresses, appointments, etc. I tried entourage, daychaser, now up to date and each of them lacked an element that I wanted.
I appreciate the integration with mac osx- the ability to do things from from right clicking desktop icon in the dock- including find, create (memo, add, todo, event), summary of day -all without opening the program.

"Palm Desktop 4.2.1 not userfriendly"

September 25, 2004  |  By rogerwalkerusa

Summary

Conduit Manager conflicts very difficult to resolve when running OSX and Classic.
Help almost impossible and references to non existing folders drive one crazy.
The above applies only to Macintosh.
