When it comes to computer graphics, Photoshop is so dominant that "photoshopping" is virtually synonymous with digital image editing. But Adobe's flagship product has some disadvantages, starting with its considerable price tag. It's also so complex that you can take courses in how to use it. But it's the standard against which all graphics editors and drawing tools are measured, which is good news because the many Photoshop clones out there include some tools that give the big dog a run for a whole lot less money. BrainDistrict's PaintSupreme for Windows is just such a tool. It's a full-featured graphics editor and paint and drawing program. It has layers, plenty of tools, additional filters, and just about everything you need to create and edit all kinds of digital images. In fact, if there's a feature or capability you need that PaintSupreme doesn't have, you'll probably have to go to Photoshop or one of its big-box (and big-bux) competitors. PaintSupreme is free to try, though the Save feature is disabled. But the full version costs only $9.99, a tiny fraction of Photoshop's price.

PaintSupreme's white font and dark gray background not only give it an up-to-date look but also make for an efficiently configured workspace. We started by downloading some new filters. Since "photoshopping" is a big part of what PaintSupreme can do, we opened a digital snapshot and cropped it for editing. If you've used Photoshop or similar apps, PaintSupreme's tool palette, Navigation and Layers sidebars, and filters will have a familiar look and feel. We quickly applied a variety of effects such as Old Photo and Fractal filters. We also opened a blank page and created an entirely new image using paintbrushes and other drawing tools. Of course, we were unable to save our creations due to PaintSupreme's trial limitations, but we certainly developed an acquaintance with this capable program.

We've tried many Photoshop clones and competitors ranging in price from free to three bills, and we think PaintSupreme ranks among the best. Better still, it costs about as much as a good lunch, while Photoshop is more like a car payment.

Editors' note: This is a review of the trial version of PaintSupreme for Windows 1.5.

"Great intermediate editing tool!"

March 21, 2013  |  By kmm225

 |  Version: PaintSupreme for Windows 1.5

Pros

I really enjoy how similar the PaintSupreme user interface is to Photoshop which reduces the learning curve right off the bat. PaintSupreme gives you the photo editing capabilities of some of the higher-priced software available but at an affordable price.

Cons

The tool is great for basic design, but lacks some of the more advanced features found in Photoshop for advanced designers.

Summary

The program is a good intermediate tool for basic design work and its simplicity is refreshing.

"Fantastic Alternative to Photoshop"

March 21, 2013  |  By briGFX

 |  Version: PaintSupreme for Windows 1.5

Pros

Extremely Affordable Price
Focus on the User

Cons

None, although I need to figure out what to buy with the money I saved, maybe a few guitars...

Summary

I do image editing professionally. I have been disappointed with the direction of Photoshop as of lately. I don't need my computer hardware being used to cutely zoom into the image, that doesn't get my work done any faster. My friends who also do design work feel the same way.

I was looking for a more productive alternative to Photoshop, and I didn't realize I could pay so little for a program that addresses the problems I have with that other program. It does everything I need my image editing program to do, I am 100% pleased with PaintSupreme.

"Easy to use and versatile"

March 20, 2013  |  By mribail

 |  Version: PaintSupreme for Windows 1.5

Pros

- easy to use
- no graphic designer skills required
- very competitive price for the tools provided

Cons

none so far as it did exactly what we expected and needed!

Summary

PaintSupreme v1.1 has been a great tool for my business which is villa rental/property sales. We bought it as we were looking for a time & cost saving editor ie our team no longer has to waste time trying to communicate what is needed with designers trying to get the right results on art work for villas photo listings. All in all a valued tool for my rental agency.
We also bought Help Supreme for our B2B extranet which helped to have a more professional user guide and online support!

"Fantastic program considering the cost"

March 20, 2013  |  By DesBranger

 |  Version: PaintSupreme for Windows 1.5

Pros

Found it easy to use, fast, comes with an amazing amount of tools & features, and I love the look.

Cons

So far there are no cons

Summary

Super program, has a great Help guide also if you are not familiar with editors.
The other reviewer probably did not find the transform tools, there is a wide range of transform tools available. Also the fill tool works and is functional.

This program has handled everything I have thrown at it so far, it was well worth the buy.
All in all I'm very happy with PaintSupreme :)

"Very Disappointing"

March 07, 2013  |  By Computer-Nerd

 |  Version: PaintSupreme for Windows 1.5

Pros

- Eye catching interface
- Many tools like in Photoshop
- Only $10 for full version

Cons

- The fill tool's tolerance is not nearly accurate. 1% will fill everything on the screen while 0% does nothing. I can't change the color of a simple stroke.

- It doesn't look like there is a way to transform an image, when I read that it is a feature given.

- The window overlaps my taskbar.

- It lacks the key command for zooming.

Summary

The program has a great interface, and that's what got me tied in, but the performance is horrible. I believe that it would be a great software if they worked much harder on the performance as well as the feature. The fill tool not being useful is a huge con.
