"Issues that keep me waiting for iSnip to come back"

October 30, 2008  |  By Cowicide

 |  Version: PTHPasteboard 4.4.0

Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I would buy PTHPasteboard if the dev made it more practical. #1 let you choose an interface that is more streamlined like iSnip was for Tiger where it came up in an attached window in the Apple menu bar instead of a separate window (which also helps with naming folders in the finder - see below) and would limit the size of the space for each clip to one line so you aren't scanning around everywhere with your mouse/trackpad like you do with PTHPasteboard to simply and quickly insert some text somewhere.

Also, I can't stand how PTHPasteboard won't work with pasting text into folders in the Finder. If you highlight the Folder name and then go to PTHPasteboard to paste into the area it deselects the Folder and you are unable to paste into the Folder name field. Very annoying and iSnip did this beautifully.

Keep all the added features of PTHPasteboard available for those who dig it, but please.. please... please... make the thing more practical for power users who crave speedy functionality over bells and whistles.

Otherwise, I'll just wait for free iSnip to come back to OS X (the dev is working on it for Leopard now) and won't ever buy PTHPastboard. I'm just simply more productive with iSnip.

"Waaay better than the rest"

I used shadowclipboard for years until it started getting buggy and the author started questionable practices on here and macupdate with harrassing users that gave bad reviews.

Best clipboard app ever. And no bait and switch games like others I've used.

"A Missing Piece of The Mac OS System"

May 17, 2007  |  By EnlightenedOne

 |  Version: PTHPasteboard 4.2.0

Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
This is an indispensable tool to the Mac user. I recommend it to everyone and install it on every Mac.

I have to echo some of what Joehodge says so elegantly below: "Excellent clipboard history tool [...] it stays out of my way when not needed, doesn't obscure 'full screen' apps, holds a large history of styled text and other items and takes just a flick of the wrist for me to summon and a single click to paste."

You can paste clipboard text (current or history) as unformatted text (plaintext) into any application. And you can set it up to paste as plaintext by default, as I have.

Thank you PTH.com!

"Great software"

 |  Version: PTHPasteboard 4.1.1

Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I began using PTH Pasteboard years ago. After the move to You Control I looked for alternatives, since You Control was a bit problematic on my system. Recently I came full circle, and back to PTH Pasteboard.
The interface is clean and functional, and a wide range of features are also available for those who like to dig deeper.
Iâ??m currently using 3 clipboards, and assigned Hot Keys to one of them for my frequently used text.
This is a very well developed application, unobtrusive, and allows me to work in a faster, more efficient manner.

"Do I need more???"

Summary

Excellent clipboard history tool. This is something that the Mac OS has needed for a long time (Been using Mac OS since it first ran on a Apple Lisa from a boot diskette). I don't usually use anything other than the graphical interface so I cannot comment on other features but the main thing is that it stays out of my way when not needed, doesn't obscure "full screen" apps, holds a large history of styled text and other items and takes just a flick of the wrist for me to summon and a single click to paste. Other clipboard managers either get in the way (too big, or hide too much screen) or are a pain to use (just convoluted keyboard commands).

Updates have been coming regularly also unlike many shareware packages I own.

"Needs more work"

January 10, 2007  |  By roro01

 |  Version: PTHPasteboard 4.0.5

Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I'm running the application on my Intel iMac OS 10.4.8 and I am finding it very useful. I have, however, found some problems with it.

I usually have a few pastes to perform at the same time, so I cannot use the
"ordinary mode" because, obviously, each time I paste an item I would have to
go back to the relevant pasteboard icon in the menu bar and click on it again for the window to reappear. I also cannot use the application in "autoshow window" as I have other application autoshow drawers around my screen. Therefore, the best way for me to use PTHPasteboard is in "always show window" mode. Using the application this way, however, causes a few problems:

1. After completing my paste actions it is impossible to close either the Main
or Custom windows by clicking on their red close buttons as they are disabled and their menu bar icons do not hide and then show the windows again. It would be helpful if both these options could be available to the user as when the window is needed for pasting the user would be able to click on the required window menu bar icon and after using it could just click on the red close button.

2. I have my Main window set to display 20 items. If I wish to paste a few
consecutive items which are numbered higher than 20, the scroll bar jumps up to the top after each paste. This is a bit of a pain because I need to scroll
down each time to search for the next item after each paste. Incidentally,
this does not happen in the Custom windows.

3. It would be useful if it were possible to move items (rather than copy) from one Custom window to another, e.g., by using a hotkey whilst dragging the item.

4. If I wish to change the order of items in a Custom window by dragging them, they are not moved but instead are copied to the target location.

If I use the application in "ordinary mode" and click on any of the pasteboards menu bar icons, all the windows are toggled instead of just the window relevant to that particular icon.

If the developer would fix these problems, then this application would be just perfect.

I tryed all this quich multiclipboard utilities I found by the System 8.0 (Copy Paste was the better one but in that environment was much more than in X) so... let me say that I am an old heavy user!
Well, I feared to never can have an Universal Binary building of this .. Oh, how happy now!
Thanks a lot!
Hem... try to find an agreement with VirtueDesktops... now it works good, but only on the main page... while this app should work on all ones.

"Simple and excellent"

Summary

There are many competitors out there, but I recently discovered Pasteboard. It's now the only one I use. It has elegant simplicity - not a lot of bells and whistles, but extremely functional and useful.

I've never needed the support, but in other respects it's excellent.
I'll upgrade to the PRO version just to send the author some $.

"It's the Real Deal"

October 06, 2006  |  By VersionTrackerUserOpinion

 |  Version: PTHPasteboard 4.0.0 B2

Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I've been running the new PTHPasteboard (4.0 beta) for a few days now, and it is a winner. I haven't had one problem with it. I've loaded up all of the pasteboards and it still performs lightening fast.

The customization with text filters is spectacular. You can build your own by joining multiple filters and saving it as a custom filter. For example, you could have it strip high ascii, strip white space, run a search and replace, and lowercase all the text with just one keystroke or mouse click. Cool!

I'm afraid I'm saying goodbye to iClip and going back to my first love PTHPasteboard. The performance and features are just unbeatable.
