"Good basic PST viewer, but be CAREFUL on the install!!!"
Version: PST Viewer 11.05.01
Pros
1. It does what it is supposed to. I have been able to review an old .pst file to find some contacts and get back in touch with them.
2. Good for viewing pst files when you do not own a personal copy of MS Outlook.
3. The GUI is user friendly and intuitive.
4. It is sortable (sort by name, date, subject)
5. The folder list in the left pane exactly mimics the view of my pst file in actual Outlook!
6. It's free!Cons
1. It is not searchable, so it can take forever to find what you are looking for if you are looking for keywords and not something that can be easily found by the sort.
2. Potential for spam/spyware. Just because it comes from CNET, you still have to be careful when installing. See #3.
3. Be very careful when installing anything on your computer that you did not pay for. You do NOT have to click through and accept EVERYTHING in the install. This is the spyware/bloatware that people are most likely talking about in other reviews. ONLY ACCEPT THE PROGRAM AND NOT ALL THE EXTRAS!!!!Summary
Although there is no search function, it is free and it works. Don't accept all the extras when installing, and you will be happy with this little program.
I only gave it three stars due to the lack of search function and the spyware that CAN come with this install if you are not careful.

"WARNING full of spam and toolbars"
Version: PST Viewer 11.05.01
Pros
None. Did not work at all.
Cons
Immediately changed internet settings and installed toolbars and search engine and that highly irritating advert thing that inserts links into your everyday websites. It then deleted restore points so it was impossible to restore system back to normal.

"Closed all windows without warning when it installed."
Version: PST Viewer 11.05.01
Pros
Haven't tried it yet (see Cons)
Cons
I needed it to retrieve some old work information but when I installed it, all my other applications got closed automatically with NO warning, including some open documents I had been working on. That is INEXCUSABLE!!!!
Summary
While it may prove to be useful, BEWARE - save all your documents and close your apps individually before you try to install this, or you will be sorry!

"Did the job without a lot of bells and whistles"
Version: PST Viewer 11.05.01
Pros
It did what I wanted it to do: opened my saved Outlook pst archive files from a previous computer, without me having to install outlook on my new computer. I was able to retrieve some license numbers from software purchases that I had neglected to record elsewhere
Cons
It couldn't open or view everything, especially attachments
Summary
If you just want to take a look at PST files and don't have outlook, this is definitely worth trying. It might be all that you need

"Installed AOL toolbar + Spyware"
Version: PST Viewer 11.05.01
Pros
See CONS, below.
Cons
Any potential PRO's are outweighed by the fact that - without asking permission or even informing me - the program installed the AOL toolbar, reset my browser's home page to AOL and also reset my default browser to AOL. It also installed Coupon and Shopping software without permission or acknowledgement.
Summary
Don't bother unless you want your computer to slow to a crawl and have time to waste resetting your browser settings and finding / uninstalling all the unauthorized programs.
Correction - it reset my default SEARCH ENGINE, not the default browser.

"Can not open attachments"
Version: PST Viewer 11.05.01
Pros
Lets you look into a PST file.
Cons
Does not show some messages very clearly.
Does not open email attachments.Summary
Whats the point of a pst viewer that does not even let you extract the email file attachments. Attachments are usually the most important part of the email. I guess you get what you pay for.

"Works Well with message that don't have signatures"
Version: PST Viewer 11.05.01
Pros
I downloaded PST Viewer to view my PST files saved while I worked with a former employer. It read everything and I was able to navigate through every sub-folder in every PST. It displayed every message title.
Cons
While it displayed every message title in every sub-folder in every PST, it could not display every message content. I worked for a civilian company on an air base and they required a digital signature on every message particularly if an attachment was involved. I could forward a message to my yahoo mail and I could view the message just fine. The digital signature would appear as a text attachment. However, PST Viewer could not open and display the body of any messages which were digitally signed. Even if the digitally signed message did not have MS Word, MS Excel, PDF attachment PST Viewer could not open the body of the message.
Summary
If you wish to view PST messages which are not digitally signed or do not have any other attachments, PST Viewer works great. But if the messages in the PST are digitally signed or contain attachments PST Viewer falls a notch short.
