"Remote control of certain Canon Powershot models"
Version: PSRemote 2.2
Pros
To replace an old image capture system used to produce microscope images of plant anatomy sections (roots, stems, etc.) I decided to see what could be done with a compact digital camera. I needed an inexpensive compact digital camera that could be attached firmly to the microscope and be controlled remotely. Brunel Microscopes (www.brunelmicroscopes.co.uk) could sell me such a system at a reasonable price of ca. 300 GBP, but even that was out of my price range. There were only a few older Canon models which would fulfill both requirements. I bought an A75 on eBay (and later an A85) to which I attached Brunel's microscope adapter via the bayonet mount surrounding the lense. For a total, for adapter, camera and remote power supply (ABC Products), of under a 100 GBP I have a usable microscope camera. There are, apparently, other programs for controlling Powershot cameras, but I am happy with Mr. Breeze's and will continue to upgrade as long as I can afford to do so.
Cons
As I understand this program will only work in XP. In order, therefore, to use it on my Windows 7 laptop, I will need to create an XP partition.
