"Exactly what I was looking for"

    August 25, 2013  |   By Bikerplumber

    Version: POP Peeper 3.8.1

    Pros

It works as good or better then I hoped it would. A visual and audio notifier. It does much more then I need but I'll practice with it and probably find there is more to it that will be very useful. I looked long and hard to find the right notifier that I would be satisfied with and this is it.

    Cons

Now the bad part: after I installed it I had Delta search hijack my google chrome. I couldn't get rid of it so I downloaded a malware remover that appeared to be FREE but wasn't. So after uninstalling it I couldn't get to any sites without it blocking me. I ended up paying windows help $100.00 to clean everything up. It took days to clear up this mess.

    Summary

After all this I have POP Peeper working , free of any problems and I like it very much. Now just maybe it was a coincidence Delta Search showed up at this exact time I installed PP, but I'll never know. At this point I don't care because it works great and does everything I wanted it to. I would highly recommend it.

"My personal number one of all free software"

    January 2, 2013  |   By cnetjantje

    Version: POP Peeper 3.8.1

    Pros

small, safe, easy and features to collect webbased e-mail without having to deal with overcrowded screens and advertisement.
A great tool I use for safe viewer e-mails which I dont trust and to notify me of new arrived e-mail in both pop and webbased accounts. Highly personal changeable ui. Great way to view possible infected e-mails without getting infected.

    Cons

no spamfilter but then again I dont expect one in a notifieying tool.

    Summary

My personal champion of all offered free software tools since the year 2000. The best if you are looking for a clean light simple pop and webbased e-mail arrival notifier.

"Of a few I tried, this one worked for me"

    October 8, 2012  |   By howardferns

    Version: POP Peeper 3.8.1

    Pros

As a notifier, it works, with a change in the tray icon and a sound.

    Cons

When it notifies of new mail it's no good just going to your webmail, you MUST open the messages on the app itself because until you have done so, the tray icon will continue showing you have new mail. Thus you might fail to notice something newer has come along.
I found no way to mark messages as read, I had to open them even if I didn't want to (like if they were uninteresting, or I'd already read them in my webmail), and they could only be done one at a time. The same applied to deleting them, I could only do them one at a time.
The icon of a mailbox has little meaning to those from countries outside of the USA.

"Couldn't work out how to get it to do what I wanted"

    May 23, 2012  |   By wendyjames1

    Version: POP Peeper 3.8.1

    Pros

    free to download

    Cons

All I wanted was an icon on my task bar, telling me how many new yahoo emails I had. Don't know if it was me not being able to work out how do do this or the software but gave up.

""BRILLIANT - set up right and you'll NEVER GIVE IT UP""

    March 8, 2012  |   By textappa

    Version: POP Peeper 3.8.1

    Pros

Beautifully crafted little program that does the job with multiple accounts in a no fuss and logical manner, which is what good design is all about (or should be). Won't bore you with the details - it's just the best desktop mail-notifier I've ever come across. The only one that came close was Mail Checker Plus which has sadly fallen into disrepute and became so unstable that Google booted it off their Extension Store. Howled for a week not believing I'd find one that good again, but POP Peeker is - it's twice as good and works seamlessly with Gmail in tandem with Outlook as server. Can't talk about other browsers than Google (and why would ya).

    Cons

Not really a con - agree with a couple of others on this page that you need to spend an hour or two learning the ropes and setting it up right. If you put the work in and use your nut you'll reap the rewards - all the tools are there to tweak it to your individual needs - and well worth it's No.1 Cnet ranking.

One tip - type in your accounts one at a time in the single account option - rather than take the automatic 'import from browsers' option above it. Then resist the temptation to tick the SMS boxes below and click Next. It will then automatically find the appropriate server for you on the web, one account at a time.

    Summary

This is the best email notifier/sorter/collater your'e ever going find. If you want to "send" from here, use a bigger stick - highlight the email in question on the Message side (R)then click the Client Server button at bottom (L)under Account side ... and the world is your oyster. Nuff said, but I need the typing practice.

P.S. Don't forget to download the essential plugins - Webmail; SSL; PP Tweaker. Enjoy!

Why No Rating Stars from CNET.

CNET rate this little ripper as No.1 in email utilities - but
give it no stars (which attract you to open editor's review or
    not when browsing).

I'm thinking a lot of people are missing out on this great little
5-star number because of that. Yes, it is time consuming to set it up right - but you will love it forever if you put in the work.
