"Worked for a while then unuseable"
Version: PDF Converter Professional 7
Pros
While it worked it was fine. Did all Word docs as I wanted then I tried to protect with watermarks and change to landscape. Thie caused the ppt to be shrunk to ~50% rather than full page. Once this happened, all Word docs were shrunk even though I changed options back to original. I decided to uninstall and reinstall (first time, same computer, no HW or SW changes). With the new install, it starts but NEVER writes out PDF. Total garbage. I will try one more install
Cons
See above. Don't breath, sneeze, stub your toe, swear, etc.....once SW crashes you are SCREWED. Support non existence
Summary
Will find other product and avoid Nuance products.

"Poor quality product"
Version: PDF Converter Professional 7
Pros
It looks good and works well for limited purposes.
Cons
Doesn't always convert scanned documents to searchable PDF
Highlighter tends to want to highlight an entire page rather than just the portion I want to highlight
There are simply better, more reliable programs out thereSummary
I primarily use the program to convert scanned documents to searchable pdf format and to then highlight portions of interest or importance. Neither function is reliable. About 50% of the time when I try to convert a document to searchable form I get a notice that the conversion failed. The highlighter is very unstable, and unless I'm very careful not to highlight to the very end of a sentence it will highlight the entire page. The company's support was useless. I have Abbyy pdf Converter and Xchange Viewer Pro as well, and they both work perfectly every time. I bought the Nuance program thinking it had features I use of both other programs so I wouldn't have to use two different programs all the time, but I find the Nuance program very inferior and I'm back to using the two others. I should mention that I also have Adobe Acrobat in another computer and it too is far superior to the Nuance program.

"Good product, company treats users as thieves"
Version: PDF Converter Professional 7
Pros
When Nuance think you are a genuine user, their product works as advertised
Cons
Their activation process is buggy, flawed, and even just installing another Nuance product can render your previous Nuance products unusable.
Summary
Customer service is non-existent. They just tell you this is the way it is, and they expect you to do their work for them, by uninstalling their software repeatedly, reinstalling it in different orders and configurations, and basically will blame any antivirus software you have or any machine docking stations or peripherals or anything else, for the fact that their software won't let you use it. I've been buying Dragon products for voice recognition since 1991, I have spent literally thousands of dollars on this company, I was stupid to buy the PDF converter, I won't make the same mistake again, I strongly discourage you from buying any Nuance product unless you really need its functionality (I need Dragon, NS but I will get another PDF converter and write the couple of hundred dollars spent on this + PaperPort off and blame my own temporary and ill-fated triumph of optimism over experience.

"Don't waste your money."
Version: PDF Converter Professional 7
Pros
As good as any other software at converting pdf to word.
Cons
Activation doesn't work, claims too many activations, and renders the software useless.
Customer Service is useless. Don't expect a reply.Summary
Don't waste your money. Buy a software package that you can use more than three times.

"Don't Buy: Copy Protection Will Render Software Useless"
Version: PDF Converter Professional 7
Pros
You won't have to suffer with the software long before your activations expire.
Cons
Ridiculously stringent copy protection renders the software completely unreliable - spend your money on software that you can reinstall if needed; this is 'throw-away' software.
Summary
If the copy protection senses *any* change to the machine's "fingerprint", you can lose one of your precious "activations" (you only get 4 before the software is useless). This can be as simple as plugging in a USB backup drive. I've already gone through one complete set of activations in 20 days, and only have 2 activations left on the second disk. It turns out that not only does changing *any* hardware cause the software to have to re-activate, but removing a virus (the Alureon virus in my case) caused the software to have to reactivate. In theory, you should be able to uninstall to recover an activation, but in only one case out of 6 has this happened. Tech support will not offer you another activation. For these reasons, the software is completely unreliable - Avoid this software at all costs!

"Major problem with Activation Process"
Version: PDF Converter Professional 7
Pros
OK convertor and editor.
Cons
Activation problem where the software regularly asks for activation for no good reason. As activations are apparently limited, the software will stop working. Nuance won't tell me how many activations I have left.
Summary
This software is OK except for one critical flaw: it regularly requests a new activation via internet connection, on start up even if there has been no change made to my computer software / hardware. I initially thought that this was triggered by attaching and removing external drives (which would be bad anyway as I need to back up and transfer large video and photo files) but it has become apparent that the trigger for activation is something else.
I have repeatedly asked Nuance how to solve this problem and have followed their suggestions with no success. They will not tell me how long I can keep activating this software before it stops working. This problem makes this software useless and I am returning it for a refund. I have some really expensive software with DRM that actually works and does not require regular activation. Why can't Nuance do something similar?
Bottom-line: Do not buy this software unless you know you can activate it successfully. -
"Unable to correctly convert PDF to Word."
Version: PDF Converter Professional 7
Pros
Nice GUI. Lots of features
Cons
* Unable to correctly convert your scanned pdf doc to Word. Trashes the file.
* Too slow. It took at least 10 minutes to convert a 5 page pdf document.
* Tech support KB didn't have anything to solve the problem.
* Charge $$$ for live Tech SupportSummary
I have a clean 5-page document, which I scanned from a book.
The document contained some graphs and text. I wanted to convert it to MS Word so I could copy the graphs so I can create a summary of the material for my notes.
I used the Nuance PDF Converter Pro 7 to convert this pdf to a Word Document. It took so long to convert a 5 page pdf document and the result was gibberish. It didn't even create the graphs. I tried different ways to do it and the result was just trash.
I tried to reach Nuance Tech Support to find a way to resolve my problem, but they wanted to charge me to speak to a live person. Their KB wasn't helpful either since it didn't have anything about it. I'm surprised that they didn't have anything about this problem because another Chap in CNET also complained about this problem.
In essence, this product is damn awful and it doesn't work. Don't believe the praises you read about this product. -
"PDF Converter Professional 7"
Version: PDF Converter Professional 7
Pros
Très bon logiciel
Cons
Activation déplorable...
Summary

"Converts to .doc file type"
Version: PDF Converter Professional 7
Pros
1. Installs add-in on Office products
2. Easy to convert documents to .PDF files
3. Less expensive than Adobe Acrobat 9Cons
1. Extremely slow download (from parent site)
2. Doesn't support 64-bit Office products (yes on 32-bit)
3. Doesn't convert .PDF files to MS Office 2010 standard file types, such as .docx for Word or .xlsx for Excel, ect.Summary
Was looking for software to expressly convert .PDF files to Word, Excel, and PowerPoint files. The features listed were good when compared to
Acrobat. Bought it, installed it, converted a couple of files, and ran into a brick wall when I tried to open then in MS Office 2010 products. Nuance converts to .PDF files to MS Office 2003 file standards and you can't view them in MS Office 2010.
If you're still working in Office 2003 or even 2007 you're golden (Office 2007 will open Office 2003 files; however, if you has a newer model OS and MS Office 2010. Pass this one by until they support MS Office 2010 files standard along with all the others. Asked for a refund and purchased Okdo for $30 bucks more and was able to immediately get back to work. Buyer be informed.
