"This is the best thing since sliced bread!"

    May 5, 2013  |   By Charles1058

    Version: PCmover Professional 8.0.631

    Pros

    very easy to use

    Cons

We had no problems except the following the summary.

    Summary

I purchased a new computer, and was told by a friend about PCmover.
I purchased a pcmover professional from Fry's Electronics in Las Vegas and five hours later, everything from my old computer was moved over to my new computer. The only problems were: 1: I had to reload my Quicken 10 program. 2. I had to call microsoft and
obtain their permission and assistance in moving microsoft "streets and trips" 2010...to the new computer which they did at no cost, and 3. I had to contact NERO and obtain their permission as well as pay an upgrade charge of 37.95 to getNero to work.( I had originally purchased Nero 6 a couple years ago and the upgrade was to Nero10). I was very surprised to learn theLOTUS123 program as well as all the spreadsheets, which date back to 1987,were on the new computer and worked perfectly. (I had tried toload LOTUS from the original disk before I heard of PCmover but it would not load.)
As it turned out the above 'NEW' computer was a piece of junk and I was forced to buy another new computer in April 2013, both were Windows7. I contacted PCmover and purchased a license to use the system a second time. This is where my problems began. When I called PCmover, it didn't take long to learn that they had sold me a license for the home addition, instead of the professional addition which I had originally purchased. They immediately changed this to the professional addition, and I started again. Again I was having problems, so I contacted their help line number ending in 9644. This is on the other side of the world, and within a matter of minutes, I was told that my problem was my computers were infected with viruses, which would have to be removed before the system would work. The cost was going to be 152.00 dollars. I told them I would not accept that charge and proceeded to solve the problem myself. The problem turned out to be that I had PCmover 7 on one computer and PCmover8 on the other computer. Once I changed and got both computers on PCmover 8, again in 5 hours everything was moved from the old computer to the new computer. The bottom line is PCmover is fantastic, but PCmover contractor to provide technical assistance is nothing but a bunch of crooks. I dealt with them for many hours last fall when I was having trouble with that first computer, and after 10 hours on the phone and an offer to debug my computers at that time at a cost of 350.00 dollars, which I did not accept,I hung up and did not call back. The problem there was the computer was defective, not the data in it. The only nice thing is PCmover works so great, you will never need to contact the contractor pirates.

"Easy Way to Upgrade your system!"

    April 11, 2013  |   By dnelsch

    Version: PCmover Professional 8.0.631

    Pros

PCMover takes the frustration of upgrading a system from XP to Windows 7 (or 8). It will move programs as well as data and does a good job of maintaining the "look and feel" of the previous system. It works equally well in upgrading a single computer or moving data and programs to a new system.

    Cons

You should make sure the old system is clean and virus free before attempting the move. If upgrading to a new system, it is best if you do not "preinstall" old programs on the new computer before the move. It does require one license per each "new" computer. Of course, you also need the proper Windows operating system license as well. When upgrading the operating system on a single computer, you need to insure the new operating system will work properly with the hardware before the move.

    Summary

I have upgraded Windows about 30 systems using PCMover both on single machines and between an old and a new system, and am totally pleased with the results.

    Updated on Aug 4, 2014

Since I wrote the original review, I have used PC Mover twice more with excellent results. If you do own a high end Adobe product (CS6), you may wish to uninstall it from the old machine because Adobe gets fussy about their user keys. But that is the only issue I have ever had. As another reviewer stated, READ the instructions. My last transfer involved a dead laptop that I was able to totally move XP to Windows 7 by using the disk image option. Some of you may not need all of the extra software offered with installation.

    "A great time-and-worry-saving product."

    February 5, 2013  |   By jimndylnfloss

    Version: PCmover Professional 8.0.631

    Pros

    * Simple to use.
    * 24/7 guidance available before and during the move.
    * Lets you choose which folders/files/apps you wish to move.
    * Allows roll-back if needed.
    * No need to download/install/adjust the settings of your apps,
they are moved 'as is' by PCMover.

    Cons

None that I am aware of.

    Summary

I had a Win7 disc and wanted to upgrade from Vista.

I looked for a program which would keep my folders and files safe, and would also let me transfer my apps.

Luckily I found Laplink's PCMover, and chose the 'Upgrade Assistant' option in order to upgrade in the same laptop.

A downloaded .pdf file (printed out to be available during the upgrade) gave me a detailed guide (with screenshots) to the whole procedure.

As advised, first I backed up externally an image of Vista's C:\ drive. Then I installed Win7, then PCMover, and after choosing which folders, files and apps I wanted to move to Win7 or leave behind, I completed the upgrade.

Everything had been moved intact, including settings, and after installing Microsoft's updates I was able to use Win7 as my operating system. Thanks to PCMover the whole move to a new o/s (the program works for Win8 too) was achieved without stress.

If you need extra guidance/advice about the move there is a customer services chatline available 24/7 which I found extremely helpful.

"Simply a waste of money and some time"

    January 22, 2013  |   By bubbawat2

    Version: PCmover Professional 6.0.620

    Pros

Files and settings transferred without corruption

    Cons

No application transferred without a problem
only 17 of 158 applications were eligible to transfer
No large application (office 2010) was selected as compatible

    Summary

I had used PCmover a couple years ago to move from an XP machine to Windows 7. I was impressed at the quality performance then. I figured my upgrade to a new machine and transfer from Windows 7 to Windows 7 would be a snap for this software. Not so

I prepped as required on both machines (a few hours worth)and was dismayed to see only 17 of 158 applications would transfer. Further, no major applications were selected - I did force select Windows office 2010 because at this point I had nothing to lose. Called 24 hour support and got no answers and even less ability to understand the problem - I had hope maybe they would suggest an upgrade migration as a working solution instead of pc to pc but alas...

12 hours later the transfer completed. Files and settings were transfered very nicely, but no applications worked. I have been reinstalling applications all day (just as I would have with the free easy transfer utility).

So - wasted about 3 extra hours and the money. PCMover did not corrupt settings and files so integrity allowed an uncorrupted ending (so far). That said - the product did little of the primary selling points of its advertising.

"Horrid! Stay away if you like your money!"

    October 6, 2012  |   By totalhome123

    Version: PCmover Professional 2.0.1.585

    Pros

    ABSOLUTLY NONE

    Cons

Ordered product without reding reviews. Didn't say it needed one of their cables so I purchased their usb cable, then when I got a hold of India, where their support is from, they told me that the USB cable would not work and I would have to purchase their ethernet cable. Tried to purchase that one and it was impossible from the web site. you click on that one and it takes you to a page comparring the different types of the software. Tried to contact them via the other number that India tech support gave me and all you get is recordings. Then they tell you to leave a message and this happened on a couple of attempts of tring to reach them. It has been several days now and no one has ever returned my call. I wish I had used PayPal to purchase it so I could get my money back, so now I have thrown away over 100.00 dollars.

    Summary

I wish there was some way that company's like this could be gotten rid of, it is so sad that there are people out there that will do anything to rip somebody else off. I relly for sad for them but angry at the same time.

"Great product, great price, excellent customer service!"

    August 14, 2012  |   By IT_Chicks_Rule

    Version: PCmover Professional 6.0.620

    Pros

Easy to install on each PC. Easy to use. Saves time and aggravation as a "magical" alternative to manual PC builds and rebuilds. Pleasantly surprised with the clean transfer between 32 to 64-bit machines. High-quality, helpful, personable and knowledgeable customer service. Super-reasonable cost.

    Cons

Really no Cons, but if I have to I'd say: Use your best judgment and instinct of which user programs to select when transferring 32-bit to 64-bit OS machines. If in any doubt, leave it out. Easier to re-install a program you're unsure about, than uninstall/clean-up on new PC.

    Summary

Having done numerous manual PC builds and rebuilds over my IT career, I'd often wished for a product like this. So glad I found it and right in time, have 4 XP Pro 32-bit to Windows 7 Pro 64-bit PCs to get transferred ASAP - 1 successful one down,3 to go. PC Mover is making me look like an IT rock star here at work. I'm super busy, don't have time to waste so with the excellent support and guidance from Customer Service Manager Ray, plus the easy-to-follow User Guide my 1st experience with this product has been a blessing! Thank you Laplink for making my wish come true!!

    "WHAT THE F***!"

    May 21, 2012  |   By IPS777

    Version: PCmover Professional 6.0.620

    Pros

    Dont know yet!

    Cons

Purchased from CNET Downloads (Powered by Trial Play) received link to download, but no serial to use the program just an order number.

Cnet, Trial Play, and the Laplink have all given automatic replies to my inqueries stating I will get a reply "withing 48 hours, and then a secong auto from TrialPlay stating a responce could take up to a few days due to higher than normal e-mail volume!

Thanks guys, the whole reason for purchasing a program like this is to save time, I can manually do everything before 48hours is up, not to mention the 2 hours I have spent trying to solve this tonight before having no other option than to write a bad review.

    Updated on May 23, 2012

Worked with Laplink Support and they did make things right. Its not reasonable to expect they have 24 hour tech support, but the whole thing was frustrating. The problem I experienced definitely was from Cnet/Trialplay "dealing" the software for Laplink. I never did get to use the software....
