    Pros

    it's Free.

It's a heavy, clunky piece of software that seems to get in the way of all of your programs & slows down your start up and shut down processes

"Don't Understand What all the Fuss is About ?"

    September 14, 2010  |   By Randy Bell

Version: PC Tools AntiVirus Free 8.0

    Pros

Excellent Detection, Easy Installation, Low Resource Usage, and absolutely FREE. No ad popup such as one sees in AVIRA AntiVir, when updating virus sigs. DOES NOT NAG the user, the way many Free Products do ..

    Cons

what's not to like ? PC Tools AV does its job silently in the background and doesn't noticeably nag you about anything. The only Possible Thing one could dislike is the auto-scan feature which [I think] can be changed by the user.

    Summary

I needed an antivirus product on my wife's new Netbook computer because the CA Internet Security that came for free [one year's subscription] with the purchase of the Netbook did not work; well it worked but caused the Netbook not to bootup properly when in the range of free Wi-Fi networks. And I did not want to put CA Antivirus Plus on there because I had already had probs with CA Internet Security which we received free with our purchase of the Netbook at Radio Shack. Did not want to put AVIRA AntiVir on it due to the irritation of the popup ad everytime it updates; did not want to put AVIRA AntiVir Premium on there due to that being a drag on resources. PC Tools is not a noticeable drag on resources and gets the job done; I understand that Symantec now owns PC Tools, which adds to its credibiiltiy since I always respected Symantec: especially if PC Tools is borrowing from the vast Norton AV database for its Antiviral sigs .. Go get this product ! Nothing to complain about, it is excellent ! :-)

"Possibly the worst support I have encountered"

    September 14, 2010  |   By Pedleyandcalvin

Version: PC Tools AntiVirus Free 8.0

    Pros

    Product does what it says.

    Cons

Contacting the company is horrid. I ended up not using the product and needed to get a refund, which did happen. But was charged for two years afterwards before the company billing dept. could get it together enough to stop automatic billings.

    Summary

Worst experience for online company ever.
