"Reliable, user friendly antivirus software with regular update available"

Pros
This software is self updating and very easy to use. It picks up a wide range of viruses and worms.
Cons
There are no obvious cons with this program

"OK AV..."
Version: PC Tools AntiVirus Free Edition 3.1
Pros
PC Tools has had a good reputation for quality software. It's just a shame they spoilt this one. It's free, it has a nice interface, but thats about it.
Cons
If you have an old system, then you should avoid this. It hogged my CPU so much that opening an app (like CCleaner) took around 1 minute instead of my normal 1 second. Hasn't won much awards. Scanning speed a little slower than AVG.

"Set it and forget it protection.....except"
Version: PC Tools AntiVirus Free Edition 3.1
Pros
Very well laid out GUI and has large easy to understand and organized buttons. Very reminiscent of SpywareDoctor.I love that fact that you can install very easily and upon activation updates are downloaded and if you are a novice pretty much you can set it and forget it. Auto updates and real-time protection make this a good choice for those of you that hate to tinker with settings and have to customize defaults.Scans are fast and thorough.only one flaw as I describe in the cons:
Cons
This app is quite a resource hog!!! I installed this on one of my older systems with a 333MHZ processor 384 RAM and PC Tools Antivirus slowed my system to a CRAWL my PC was almost unusable. This is a good antivirus program for newer systems only with at least 800MHz processors and above.
Once again I went back to Avast antivirus which is one of the best, and to my delight it works great on older systems even with only 333MHz CPU !!!

"ok..........it's free"
Version: PC Tools AntiVirus Free Edition 3.1
Pros
that's it for positives
Cons
but since it is not near as good as avast free, why bother. pc tools seems to be riding on a steep downhill slope, this must be one of the weakest av scanners out right now. even worse than that lousy sophos form webroot.

"Proactive protection!"
Version: PC Tools AntiVirus Free Edition 3.1
Pros
This free antivirus does more than simply thwart attacks; it covers up vulnerabilities. PC Tools AntiVirus Free Edition's default settings protect your files and system registry from tampering, whether or not it has a signature to identify the offender. I'm impressed!
Cons
Consumes a larger chunk of system resources than an exclusively signature-based product like AVG (most newer products do). It's an opportunity cost of speed in favor of security.
May cause problems on some machines (particularly older ones), although this is usually due to improper settings. Unfortunately, novice users cannot be expected to have much (if any) sense of direction in PC Tools' interface, which offers more "fine-tuning" than those in simpler products like AVG.
Proactive security measures such as those integrated into this product can produce false positives.

"Slowed Download Speed To A Crawl"
Version: PC Tools AntiVirus Free Edition 3.1
Pros
I was encouraged by the editor's review and upon installation the software seemed easy to use and really functional. I liked it a lot...at first. Was I ever wrong!
Cons
This software slowed my download speed to a nearly useless rate. Simple browsing was a nightmare. I had installed several programs that day so it took me a while to figure out that the problem was PC Tools. After days of frustration, I fixed it by simply turning off the "real-time protection" feature. One click and my 'net was back up and running! Needless to say I immediately uninstalled it. What a disappointment.

"absolutely useless!"
Version: PC Tools AntiVirus Free Edition 3.1
Cons
Small database and was unable to pick up "keylogger-ey trojan", was more interested in my private files! which i found very offensive!I uninstalled this rubbish and installed Avast Home Edition and immediately ran a boot scan and ofcourse Avast removed 2 trojans. It is my opinion that Avast home edition is even more superior than most of the so called professional Anti-virus software and i have tried many. I personally think that a lot of the professional Anti-virus programs are a con and are just after your money!
