    "Total scam. DO NOT BUY!"

    March 13, 2013  |   By Taz420nj

    Pros

    None to speak of

    Cons

Their free scanner is basically 'scareware'. Lies about infections, and does nothing to fix or improve speed

    Summary

I did a test of this software, because lately I have received several non-booting computers into my shop, whose common denominator was that they used PC Matic before the problems started.

I mentioned Scareware.. That's the name for all those banner ads you see telling you to "Click here because your computer may be infected".. Well, I tried the 'free scan' with a computer that I KNEW to be clean (it was a fresh install), and guess what? Their scanner found 4 'infections' and numerous 'problems' with the computer, which it of course promised to fix for $49.99.

Seriously, save your money and use free tools such as Microsoft Security Essentials, CCleaner, Glary Utilities, and SuperAntiSpyware. Or just pay someone to do it for you. Because basically you will end up paying them anyway once this pile of crap breaks the computer.

Oh and by the way, 99% of all the reviews on here are PCPitstop employees doing shill reviews.

    Updated on Mar 13, 2013

Oh yeah.. Speaking of shills, I also came across a review that claimed he removed PC Matic and his computer went back to slow so the program must work. Sorry but that is total bullsh*t. Basically in order to do that it would have to restore the computer to the state it was in before the program was installed. Simply uninstalling does not do that, you would have to do a System Restore - and that also is contingent on you actually HAVING something that is slowing the computer down in the first place.

This program simply preys on computer illiterates and gives them a placebo effect for $50.

I actually saw this commercial on the t.v. this a.m. and thought i would check it out. I felt the initial, (all positive), reviews were a scam and looking at your review and the replies thereafter I now know it is a scam. Thank you for your review and insight.

Nice canned response from 'pcmatic_support_team'. I never said the software HAD any recognized malware in it, I said it claimed to detect 'infections' and 'problems' on a computer that had just been wiped clean and reinstalled. The computer is KNOWN to be clean, yet PC Matic claimed it was infected with three spyware and a Trojan. This is the same behavior as malicious scareware - it scares the user into forking over money.

And FYI I am a computer tech who runs a thriving business. I have many friends in the industry. We all have the same opinion of your software - it's crap. I have personally serviced many computers that have been broken by your crapware. Don't get me wrong, I thank you for the business, but I hate having to deal with customers who are all pissed off at their computer because of YOUR product.

    kthxbye.
