"Nice, fast, simple, video conversion"
Version: Oxelon Media Converter 1.1
Pros
I've been using this since 2009 and I've stuck with it even after buying a second-hand mac that still has the previous owner's Adobe stuff, Handbrake, etc. I really like being able to choose what i want to convert and to specify its output properties, instead of having the program load the videos by itself and tell me that i can only convert them into this and that format, at this and that spec.
I like the fact that it's freeware.Cons
Not exactly cons, but some features i would suggest is the ability to display an original video file's properties like bitrate, dpi, fps, resolution, etc. I think it needs a built-in help file, although it may not be in a file converter's remit to explain what bitrate or audio sampling is.
Like what a previous comment says, there seems to be a bug when you attempt to install the additional codecs. No problem with downloading; it's that when you install them, it can freeze your PC. Regarding that, the codec pack is less than 5 mb. Oxelon can just bundle that with the converter so that we no longer need to install them separately, and even then i'm sure the installer will still be less than 10 mb.Summary
I've used oxelon mostly for video conversion, and it hasn't failed to satisfy my lust for cellphone versions of my movie library. I agree with the previous comment that this is severely underrated software, and not just because it's freeware: it really does its job well.
A program this good begs for mac and linux versions, and even iOS and apk versions. Just saying. -
"Completely underrated, fantastic bit of freeware."
Version: Oxelon Media Converter 1.1
Pros
Some of the negative comments on here are very unfair. A lot of people need to learn the difference between a wrapper and a codec. A really fantastic program which does exactly as advertised. As for slowing down peoples computers, pfft. You're encoding video/audio properly, this will use CPU - it's 2012, get a better computer if it's that bad. I'm also running on 64bit windows 7 and it's stable.
There's no pressure to 'upgrade' to a paid version, nore to donate. I'm pretty sure Oxelon only get money from website visits, so it's only fair to visit the site if you find the program usefull.Cons
none, although I would like to know what settings the program converts media using new codecs if the settings tabs are left blank (if there's any Oxelon folk about...)
Summary
The majority of negative comments should be dismissed. A great, clean program (including optional codec pack),which has saved my a*s many times - thanks oxelon!

"All the program did was launch a web page"
Version: Oxelon Media Converter 1.1
Pros
None. None. None.
Cons
All this program does is open a web page.
Summary
I ran the program which seemed to display something useful, but then asked me to download codecs. So I did. When I tried the program from the desktop icon, all it did was take me to the Oxelon home page. Not very useful, and certainly not what was advertised. Maybe it was an accident, but I'm very suspicious of this company, and am very sorry I downloaded the codecs (who knows what they really were!).

"Lame and Does Not Work as Advertised"
Version: Oxelon Media Converter 1.1
Pros
None for me.
Cons
Doesn't work as advertised.
Summary
Installed this SPECIFICALLY to convert VOC files which it say that it does in the narrative above, on it's website, and even in the program itself! Then when I load a VOC file, it states that it is "unsupported"!

"Good program, should be rated higher"
Version: Oxelon Media Converter 1.1
Pros
The context menus lets you pick what file you want to convert on the fly! I found myself using this feature a ton. It features a good variety of conversion formats and is relatively straightforward/easy to use.
Cons
After converting a file it automatically pops up the Oxelon website (can easily be turned off in the settings menu). Conversion process takes 100% cpu while converting, but the conversion is fast (120mb video file in just a few seconds).
Summary
This program is great when used with Orbit downloader (also found on download.cnet.com).
A tip when converting files: If you are converting videos to mp4 format for your ipod, you may want to right-click the original file (the one you want to convert) go to properties > then go to the details tab. If you match the data rate of the original file to the "Bitrate (kbits/sec)" section of the video section, and do the same with the audio bitrate section, your converted file should be roughly the same size as the original. If you try to make a 192kbps audio file into a 320kbps audio file, you will get a bigger file, but the audio quality won't increase (aka waste of space).
Hopefully in the future the developers will have a feature that automatically detects the bitrates of the file, so user's don't accidentally over-convert a file, resulting in unnecessary big files. -
"Best Free Video Converter Ever"
Version: Oxelon Media Converter 1.1
Pros
Free, Can encode audio and video separately, Has a lot of different file type capabilities. Fast and Efficient. NO WATERMARK
Cons
When you close the program, it opens your web browser to wwwDOToxelonDOTcom.
Summary
Best free video converter I've ever used. While you can find other free converters, they usually put a watermark on your video, unless you upgrade to the "Pro Version". This program doesn't do that.
