    "not bad but nothing exceptional."

    May 18, 2012  |   By cnetguy7

    Pros

    - fast
    - addons available
    - quick dial pretty neat

    Cons

    - memory hog
    - not as secure as chrome ( had an infected system on windows 7 UAC with MSE as main AV).
    - unique identifier with each browser ( you can remove it on firefox)

    Summary

Not as customizable as FF and not as secure or as quick as chrome.
If you're not using chrome because of privacy concerns and are using opera, then you're just naive. Opera is a for profit co. with a multi million dollar deal with google so if you think Opera has a vested interest in your privacy, you're mistaken. google will gain as much info. about you as if you were using Chrome itself.
if you want a fast, no nonsense, highly secure browser, don't go for Opera or Chrome, use Comodo Dragon with tweaked privacy settings. I have comodo dragon and firefox. Firefox is my main.

    Just to add, FF has a deal with Google too but you can disable its geo-enabled feature easily and FF has tons of addons that boost privacy and keep all sorts of cookies, analytics, 3pes out.;

Firefox is a flawed browser but its benefits are so many, I will continue to use it.

@ELObomo Even if I bought a new computer Opera would still be my main Browser of choice over Firefox or Google Chrome.I just saw your Update about Opera that says:::::They fixed it!
    They fixed it!
    They fixed it!
Someone over at Opera is actually listening!
It now loads all the pages properly I gripped about.
    I'm impressed!
    Thanks, Opera!!!

Waiting for MM4U to get a new computer. Then he'll see the browser comparisons in a whole different light.

@ cnetguy7 Thanks for the info on the comodo dragon browser For financial transactions.I will have to go and check that out.

@musicman4you For financial transactions, i use comodo dragon which i consider the most secure browser ever made ( chromium tweakings). Comodo is a company i do trust. Their cleaning tools, firewall etc are all top notch and i admire Melih.

Firefox is my main browser for reading news, emails etc.
I know these plugins work because i can see their effectiveness for myself. I read the reviews of other informed people and it also comes down to the faith in the individual developers who can be identified by their names.

Tbh, I'd rather play russian roulette with an individual developer than a private co. that not only collects information for google but also the cos. it's in partnership with.

Opera used to be a pay and use browser before google made them a deal they couldn't resist.
Now opera is just google chrome in a different badge with more user friendliness with speedstart and other nice toys.

Opera has wonderful toys out of the box, better than any i'll give you that.

@cnetguy7 This will be an interesting question for you - Would you know if the add-ons or the plugins that you use for Firefox and other Mozilla products are safe to use?
What is that's not so safe about them, you might ask. Here is a quick run down of some points worth considering that will tell you why those plugins and add-ons may not be safe to use.
The addons and plugins for many Mozilla products are not certified by Mozilla.
There is no central authority at Mozilla to scan through the plugins to check if the plugins and addons collect information from your system and pass it onto remote servers.
Plugins may not be malicious in nature but poorly coded plugins may indirectly create a security hole that can be exploited to steal information from your browser and computer.
What can you do to safeguard your information?
There are no definitive ways of doing it. You will have to use the plugins and add-ons at your own risk.

On my computer, Chrome and Dragon are light speeds ahead of Opera. Firefox is faster too but without addons.
I know all about Mozilla's deal with google which is why I eluded to it for Opera fanboys. I anticipated your argument.
The ONLY REASON Mozilla is paid more than Opera by google is because Opera has only 2 percent or so of the worldwide desktop market while FF is more than 20 percent. The chances that most of FF users use google as default search engine is higher than Google can ever expect from Opera.

Mozilla has better privacy features out of the box compared to Opera and with their privacy addons it BLOWS opera out of the sky in terms of privacy.

Just so you know, i don't use google, i use firefox with bing. I have disabled geo.enabled,
i use do not track plus, ghostery, adblock, adblock pop up blocker, betterprivacy, on suspicious sites - noscript.

My firefox configuration is offers way more privacy than any opera user gets with their opera browser. That is a FACT.

Opera is Faster than Firefox or Google Chrome on my computer. Also Opera has many features built in that Firefox has to have addons to use.Google Will Pay Mozilla (Firefox) Almost $300M Per Year in Search Deal, Besting Microsoft and Yahoo. So don't you think that makes them a for profit co also or more so? So Opera makes a little money from Google and you call it not secure but Firefox is getting almost 300 Million Dollars a year from Google and you think it is safer.I disagree and Opera just had a recent Security Update.Man wait until you see what all Opera Version 12 coming out soon has.Opera has been my Main Browser for over a year and I like it a lot better than Firefox.......Old versions of Firefox were great but it will never be as good as it was before.Opera for me all the way.
