Opera 10 maintains the program's tradition of striving to be the fastest, smallest, and most full-featured browser available. In this latest iteration, Opera replaced its JavaScript engine, remade the interface for Windows 7, and developed features have solidified the company's position as an innovator.

The big news in Opera 10.50 is the new JavaScript engine, Carakan, that makes Opera arguably the fastest browser around. It also has full compatibility with Windows 7 includes Aero Peek, jump lists, and a design redo that emphasizes Aero's translucent window frames. Longtime Opera fans will notice that its menubar has been hidden and replaced by a drop-down menu that compresses the options into a tree format. The new version also highlights the Closed Tabs box with a prominent tab bar icon styled on the Windows recycle bin, and it's widgets have gained the capability to live on the desktop, separate from the browser. Opera also introduced HTML5 video support in v10.50.

Opera is known for coming with an incredible number of features out of the box. It's the basics such as tabbed browsing and tab previews, a customizable search bar, advanced bookmarking tools, and native e-mail and chat client options. But it also has mouse-gesture support, keyboard shortcuts, password management, antimalware protection from Haute Secure, and drag-and-drop functionality. Its more exciting options include Opera Link for synchronizing bookmarks, your personal bar, Speed Dial, and Notes via My Opera. Opera Unite expands My Opera by letting you create an Opera-hosted Web server to share files and stream media. For users on slower connections, the toggleable Opera Turbo compression engine feeds sites through Opera's own servers for faster load times.

Opera undoubtedly has what it takes to unseat even the biggest-name browsers. You just need to hear it sing.

"Pokey and confusing."

April 27, 2010  |  By Malcolmnbe

 |  Version: Opera 10.51

Pros

Nifty and clean-looking, though it looks a bit like a page from Overstock.com.

Cons

Slow and confusing.

Summary

Haven't used it much (only had it about a week), but I find it slow and slightly annoying. Maybe customizing it will help, but out of the box I prefer Chrome for its speed - and low resource use - and Firefox for its endless series of useful (and some admittedly pointless) add-ons (which can slow it up, though).

"Can say one of the fastest but can't say the greatest"

April 22, 2010  |  By mmo0J

 |  Version: Opera 10.51

Pros

-Fast startup of the program and fast browsing. Faster than other browsers
-Interface is comfortable, simple and functional
-Runs scripts (ie facebook chat) faster than other browsers
-Creative functions such as speed dial, opera turbo and notes

Cons

-Cant display some pages like IE. Some forms, drop down menus, script stuff or tables in pages arent displayed OR dont function. This is very important for me. I cant use Opera as my default browser just for this. I cant trust it.

Summary

-CONS (continued)-
This (above) must be the priority in the fix-list of Opera guys
-Not much Add-ons like in Firefox
-Needs a work around for download function
-Opera guys must add some middle mouse button functions like in Firefox to provide a more comfortable browsing
-i dont like its password management
---------

Opera gives me the impression as if it is not a final product. The browser needs some more development in codes and scripts stuff to view pages correctly. It is one of the fastest browsers and has one of the greatest interfaces, both in functions, how it looks and speed, but i am going to keep my internet explorer as my default and "trustworthy" browser to view "important" stuff.

"OOOOps...What Happened OPERA?¿?¿?.."

April 20, 2010  |  By wifiro

 |  Version: Opera 10.51

Pros

The B-E-S-T browser. The DELETE Private Data. NOTES button, all copy and paste in text there to read later. PERSONAL toolbar, tiny buttons (with site logos!) SPEED DIAL (needs 50 windows). START UP recalls back sessions. TURBO speeds pc on low b/s.

Cons

BUT...I`ll keep 10.10 version. Installed the new 10.51 version..SURPRISE, the DELETE PRIVATE DATA dissapeared.

...and Opera needs better downloading opera-tion. You turn off the browser it erases all your bytes downloaded.

Summary

The Greatest Browser on the Web (really don´t mind the gadjets and widjets toys) but don´t rest on your laurels. Careful where you step! I`ll wait for version 10.6 or 7

"Surprising (in a good way)"

April 19, 2010  |  By gargamel360

 |  Version: Opera 10.51

Pros

FAST above all else ( any1 still stuck with dial-up should try this), good built-in features( speed dial, user/author mode, turbo).

Cons

Occasional lack of function( web page buttons/text boxes don't work(rare)) slightly less safety/flexibility than Firefox.

Summary

Like foreign food; Try it with an open mind, you might like it, but don't call it bad for simply being different. Since these guys are into mobile browsers before many, I'd expect that they aren't going away soon.

"Is a great browser"

April 19, 2010  |  By dc1386

 |  Version: Opera 10.51

Pros

It is faster than IE, easy interface, when you close your browser with tabs still up it keeps the tabs

Cons

It doesn't have a toolbar

Summary

Overall, this product is great. It's fast and effective with a easy interface. It's hard to find where the settings are for this browser, but once you get used to it it's great. This program has never crashed my system.

"Pathetic....."

April 19, 2010  |  By hdelrio323

 |  Version: Opera 10.51

Pros

Speed dial that is about it

Cons

WOW...I used to like Opera but this thing never moved from one page to another. It froze up on every single page that I navigated to. I turned on the turbo and turn off the turbo it did not matter. This version is really pathetic.

Summary

Going back to Firefox.

"has great potential"

April 18, 2010  |  By icelady301

 |  Version: Opera 10.51

Pros

I like the theory behind the concept. Tried it once before when trying to learn the apple interface but found learning two new interfaces daunting and dumped it. It seems better, but now it installed perfectly on pc, crashed after install on laptop

Cons

I find the interface a bit of a challenge, and I can't get a response from opera staff or even posts on forums to help with why it's crashing just after successful install.

Summary

I really want to see this browser develop. It's not as "tacky" and "kitchy" as Mozilla, IE. It's a classy product. It needs better tech support, it tells you to go to forums for your answers because they will only answer business accounts. To me, that is poor customer service. They should have a live chat helper.

could be great, many great perks. Honestly, I thunk Linux is going to squash windows based programs in the not so far future!

"Could be perfect with a few tweaks"

April 18, 2010  |  By jmhx7

 |  Version: Opera 10.51

Pros

Very noticeably faster than chrome and firefox. Great looking skins for it.

Cons

Has little issues and quirks that keep it from getting full stars (doesn't show some items on certain web pages that my firefox does and also the statusbar info for mouseover is quirky and doesn't work most of the time).

Summary

If Opera fixed the minor quirks and enabled users to add their own mouse gestures, It would be great. Also the widgets are pretty much useless compared to chrome and firefox addons. They need to make some widgets that can compete instead of popup calendars or weather reports.
