"Much faster then safari on wifi"

    April 17, 2010  |   By rtgavin14

    Version: Opera Mini 5.0

    Pros

Amazing speed over wifi, tabbed browsing

    Cons

Can't play Quicktime videos or audio, pinch and zoom is too sensitive

    Summary

I've been using this on my iPod Touch for a while now, and have been amazed my how much faster this is over safari. I don't know if the same results are on the iPhone over 3G or Edge, but over wifi there is a significant speed increase. But every time i want to stream a BOL, it opens safari to do it there, which i think should be fixed, and also, the pinch and zoom is very extreme. Just a little tiny pinch zooms in way too much.

    "Excellent alternative for web browsing."

    April 17, 2010  |   By Rincewind_jr

    Version: Opera Mini 5.0

    Pros

It's fast! Nice and simple design. It was a breath of fresh air to get away from Safari.

    Cons

The zoom needs to be fixed in the next update, as some pages appear with too small text to read, but when zoomed in it's easy to get lost on the page. There must be a middle-way option, or implement the pinch and zoom as on the Safari.

    Summary

Use Safari for checking your Netbank, and to read the few web pages that doesn't support the Opera browser (yet), and use Opera for everything else.

"Better luck next time, Opera Mini."

    April 15, 2010  |   By macboymacboy

    Version: Opera Mini 5.0

    Pros

    Loads quickly.

    Cons

Can't read text on most pages, too small. Browser takes up WAY to much real estate on iPhone's screen, ugly page rendering.

    Summary

Upon comparison to Mobile Safari on iPhone, this browser is yet another example of how Apple just does everything better. My Google homepage looks great in Safari; in Opera Mini it's ugly. The text is rendered in Safari so that I can read it; can't read a damn thing on most pages in Opera Mini. Yes, it's very fast, the Opera Mini pages load as quickly on my 3G as they do in Safari on a 3GS. But what good is it if it doesn't look as good, and I can't read it? I'd rather wait a few more seconds and have a much better rendering of the web page. If Opera can incorporate the aesthetics and functionality of Safari with the speed of Opera, they've got a winner. Otherwise it's just another silly browser in the App Store that won't move Safari out of my dock.

    "Not better than Safari"

    April 14, 2010  |   By moe04

    Version: Opera Mini 5.0

    Pros

Lots of good features and easy navigation. Tab Tab Tab multiple Tab browsing

    Cons

Kind of slow. Web pages do not render as well as Safari.

    Summary

I like Opera on the desktop and I loved it on my Nokia N800 which does not boot up any more :<( But on the ipod Touch, it has some issues with speed and the rendering engine. I'm not going to delete it from mt iPod because it may get updated and become better.

    "Give opera a break"

    April 14, 2010  |   By Ericdanman

    Version: Opera Mini 5.0

    Pros

The biggest PRO of all it works on my Samsung Instinct, and the default browser sucks noodles (landscape only).

    Cons

I think the problem is, there's no fruit in their logo.

    Summary

I can't even believe there is a free alternative to the default browser my phone and you fanboys/hater(aka.vagreville) try to tear it to pieces. You spoiled little brats.

"Great for Edge Browsing, worthless in 3G or Wi-Fi."

    April 14, 2010  |   By UKStory1355

    Version: Opera Mini 5.0

    Pros

For anyone who lives in a town of less than 200,000, this browser can be a Godsend, because it is much faster. Apple won['t get sued.

    Cons

When you have the speed, Safari is better.

    Summary

Though putting the iPhone on Verizon would be a better long term solution than using Opera Mini, this browser brings a lot of usability for millions of iPhone users who are victims of AT&T's hatred of rural and small town America.

"Safari does nearly everything a lot better."

    April 14, 2010  |   By Darkhyperchaos

    Version: Opera Mini 5.0

    Pros

Reasonably fast, tab system works well, nice ability to save web pages for offline use.

    Cons

Not as visibly appealing as Safari, icons in the bookmarks page are often blurry and out of focus, not really noticeably faster the Safari, scrolling is all over the place and fairly inaccurate, no multi-touch, no YouTube support.

    Summary

It's not a terrible browser, but there really is extremely little reason to use it over Safari. You might get slightly faster page renderings, and the ability to save pages for offline use is pretty cool, but the over all browsing experience makes those two things negligible.

The zooming and scrolling alone will probably make dump this app until it gets updated. Just trying to scroll through a web page is way too jumpy and inaccurate. There's also no multi-touch, so zooming will seem clunky, inaccurate, and out dated.

Overall it really in mosts ways feels like a stripped down version of Safari that's still in beta, not only is it highly inferior to Safari, but even on its own, it's not ready for day to day use.

"Good start, but this browser needs work"

    April 14, 2010  |   By zerolnf

    Version: Opera Mini 5.0

    Pros

    Fast rendering of web pages
Handy speed dial with 9 slots
    Aesthetically pleasing browser

    Cons

Sloppy rendering of web pages at times
Pressing a link can sometimes elicit no response

    Summary

I think I'll be using this for mainly the speed dial feature to access certain web pages quickly. It's not good enough to totally discard Safari, mainly because of the poor rendering of many pages. Hopefully Opera will fix this, and then I can comfortably use this as my sole browser. It's definitely nice to see some browser competition in the app store, however.
