"Basic Filtering lacks fundamental controls and security"

by cbTexas on December 8, 2009

Pros: Filters DNS. Yippie. If you need real control for your business, purchase something stronger such as Barracuda, Websense, or iBoss filter

Cons: What about the rest of the web. did we all forget about streaming videos, chat, etc. Not a realistic solution for todays Internet admins looking for real control.

Summary: my issue is as a network engineer, you should know that opendns is fine and dandy for basic filtering. The web is much more robust. Tried this and have to say its ok to filter a five year old. But any teen will walk through this. At an office, even worse. what about chat, file sharring, music downloading, FTP, group membership, and so on. If you think your employees are locked down, someone needs to wake you up. And the network engineer, no offense but seems that online degree didnt provide a good background. Again, decent but not realistic for savvy networks.
