"Great product - but read EVERYTHING on installation"
Version: Open Freely 2.0
Pros
Ideal for opening documents I wouldn't otherwise be able to access. In particular Microsoft Works ones.
Cons
None as yet
Summary
Huge variation in feedback on this. Needed to open a document so decided to download with caution and READ EVERYTHING rather than blindly clicking on 'accept' for everything (the pop ups were for a load of additional downloads!). After the initial CNet screen there were a couple of other screens to accept or decline so I declined both. Then on the installation I opted for the 'custom installation' (it said this option was for expert users but there were only 3 tick boxes to choose from!!). So I made sure all 3 boxes were unchecked so no toolbar etc was installed. So far, so good. I've managed to open the document I needed and it's had no other effect on my computer.

"Awful Product - Installs Walware"
Version: Open Freely 2.0
Pros
does convert files
Cons
Installs a bunch of Malware unbidden and then you have to spend time uninstalling from the Control Panel and Also from your add-ons/extensions/options on your browser. Do not use. Really annoying.
Summary
Very annoying. Do yourself a favor and do not Download

"Very handy and nice program!"
Version: Open Freely 2.0
Pros
Will open every format that I come across and need to view with no problems. Use it mostly for PPS files. I have no need for nor do I want Power Point!
Cons
I don't have any cons about this program.
Summary
Not sure why folks are having problems with it. All you have to do is opt out of all the "free" add ons using the custom install and it works perfectly. Have used this program for a long time in the past and just now had to re-download and install due to system re-install. Still works like it did in the past.

"CNET has gone to SH*T"
Version: Open Freely 2.0
Pros
I did not try this, after looking at all the bad reviews it kind of makes you wonder hmmmm....why would CNET even have this listed as such a good program if its loaded with so much malware...sounds to me like CNET is making deals with the a$$holes that put this malware on our PC's, nice work CNET you officially suck now.
Cons
From all the reviews its loaded with nasty malware yet CNET gives it 5 stars.
Summary
CNET has in fact gone to SH*T now. More and more they provide "good" software that is loaded with viruses, malware, ads, and all types of bad crap that they conveniently dont mention. Its pretty obviously the scumbags loading up these "good" programs with nasty crap, are paying CNET to give them good reviews.

"This is massive adware. Do NOT get it"
Version: Open Freely 2.0
Pros
None. It loaded so many ads, I can't browse the web without removing browser plug-ins that were installed by this
Cons
Too many ads to make useful. Plug-ins installed too all my browsers.
Summary
I did a malware check with Malwarebytes to make sure my PC was clean. After installing this software, my web browsers, IE, Firefox, and Chrome, all displayed nothing but ads, pop-ups, pop-unders, so this is not worth my while. I scanned after I removed the product, and PC was also clean, but ads still were there. I had to go into each browser and remove the plug-in that was installed by this software.
What happened to trial-ware, and shareware? It seems that more and more software these days is ad-supported. This does not reflect well on the developer, as it makes him or her appear greedy. -
"I'm an idiot!"
Version: Open Freely 2.0
Pros
None None NONE
Cons
I didn't read the other reviews first. I thought download.com and CNET checked the software first. Got the My Incredibar junk installed and can't get it off! Shoulda known better.
Summary
DO NOT DOWNLOAD!

"Doesn't Work"
Version: Open Freely 2.0
Pros
Nothing at all
Cons
Wasted my time - couldn't open XDFL like it said it could. Plus, it wanted to install junk (not a virus...just junk). Don't bother.

"WARNING: Virus!"
Version: Open Freely 2.0
Pros
None that I am aware of.
Cons
Someone gave me a file from their Mac with an apple "extension" ("page") ... my system recommended this program as a way to open and edit it. So I proceeded to download. But as soon as the download file had come across, my antivirus software (AntiVir) immediately flagged it as containing a virus. So I aborted the download/installation process.
Summary
Download contains virus. Also read other reviews on this site before installing!
