"A very easy way to keep versions and backups of my docs"

    December 18, 2009  |   By wrn8000

Best feature is the auto-versioning. Just checked and a version of today's work had been made every 5 minutes. I didn't even notice the software working and somehow the size of my backup has barely grown. Plus I can search my backup too.

Would be great to see more advanced search options in one of the next updates. I started to search for versions by files names - and this is definitely useful, but I need more options to find what I want quicker

First of all it is faster than I expected and I'm pretty sure my computer hasn't been slowing down during backups. Within 2 minutes I had installed it and told it what to backup. Was planning to leave it running overnight but an hour and a bit later around 55GB were backed up to my USB drive. Backups since then have literally taken less than a minute each.

I am using it to backup my work files (source code, web sites code, office docs) and I also selected all my photos and music.

As a software developer and web designer I've learnt the importance of keeping as many versions files as possible! This used to be time consuming as I used to create a ZIP archive every few hours. But when things went wrong it used to take ages to restore the file I needed. Oops!Backup is definitely ideal for this - the versions are automatic and they are backed up at the same time since I chose a removable USB drive as the destination. I already had to restore a few files to check what had changed since and the experiance was very good.

Final thing I want to mention are the previews of previous versions. The previews for office docs and text files are a nice feature but not very useful for me. What is great is that I can preview the way the website that I am working on looked in the past. Somhow the software actually renders the site and displays it.

For this feature alone I definitely recommend this to all web developers / designers...
