"Ease of use | intuitive | Simple"

December 23, 2009  |  By yarininio

 |  Version: Oops!Backup 2.0

Pros

Took me 3 minute to install , 3 minute to configure , DONE.
I really liked the interface , looks like someone invested time and efforts to combine functionality with simplicity

Cons

The first backup take long time , needs to compress /shrink the files in a better way in order to spare storage .

Summary

My opinion is that it looks Oops Backup is going to be one of the leaders for home users backup solution . it is really cost effective in terms of cost and benefit.
In the time i run the software i did not encounter any problems ,errors or bugs (maybe there are but i did not faced any). bottom line i recommend to try ,use and see for your self.

"Helps you recover past versions of yr file! Cool!"

December 21, 2009  |  By M-T1970

 |  Version: Oops!Backup 2.0

Pros

unlike other backup tools, Opps can recover different versions of the doc you have created. so when you need to make a rightabout turn on your work, you now no longer have to recall the track you were on a number of edits ago!

Cons

i am a basic user and this meets my needs

Summary

i think the backintime features is what makes this prodcut spectacular - iti s not just backup but way more than that. and at really good pricing. very accessible! plus it is simple; easy to use and very effective.

"A very easy way to keep versions and backups of my docs"

December 18, 2009  |  By wrn8000

 |  Version: Oops!Backup 2.0

Pros

Best feature is the auto-versioning. Just checked and a version of today's work had been made every 5 minutes. I didn't even notice the software working and somehow the size of my backup has barely grown. Plus I can search my backup too.

Cons

Would be great to see more advanced search options in one of the next updates. I started to search for versions by files names - and this is definitely useful, but I need more options to find what I want quicker

Summary

First of all it is faster than I expected and I'm pretty sure my computer hasn't been slowing down during backups. Within 2 minutes I had installed it and told it what to backup. Was planning to leave it running overnight but an hour and a bit later around 55GB were backed up to my USB drive. Backups since then have literally taken less than a minute each.

I am using it to backup my work files (source code, web sites code, office docs) and I also selected all my photos and music.

As a software developer and web designer I've learnt the importance of keeping as many versions files as possible! This used to be time consuming as I used to create a ZIP archive every few hours. But when things went wrong it used to take ages to restore the file I needed. Oops!Backup is definitely ideal for this - the versions are automatic and they are backed up at the same time since I chose a removable USB drive as the destination. I already had to restore a few files to check what had changed since and the experiance was very good.

Final thing I want to mention are the previews of previous versions. The previews for office docs and text files are a nice feature but not very useful for me. What is great is that I can preview the way the website that I am working on looked in the past. Somhow the software actually renders the site and displays it.

For this feature alone I definitely recommend this to all web developers / designers...

"PC counterpart to Apple's Time Machine!"

December 18, 2009  |  By pako80

 |  Version: Oops!Backup 2.0

Pros

Easy to set up, Intuitive Interface, Fast search facilities, Does what its says

Cons

It does not provide disk imaging

Summary

oops! backup is the only PC counterpart to Apple's Time Machine which i've came across. I've looked into countless backup solutions for my PC but none are as intuitive and easy to set up. Like Apple's Time Machine it only backups up your updated data so it makes the backup process fast. With a cleverly designed timeline, you can go back to different states of any particular file or folder and restore it instantly!

"Easy to Use, Lightweight and Effective!"

December 18, 2009  |  By cristoforo1980

 |  Version: Oops!Backup 2.0

Pros

It's very easy to use, both to install and to use and the interface is well-thought. On top of this, the memory usage is quite light.

Cons

It does take a bit of time to make the first backup of large backup volumes but that's reasonable considering hardware limitations on my machine. Once that is done, the hourly backups are very fast.

Summary

I'm a student and in the past I lost some important assignments I was working on and that meant lost grades and opportunities. Thus backuping my files became crucial to me. Before I tried this product, I was backuping my stuff manually but with this product, I saved a lot of time and eliminated the risk of forgetting to backup something.

The ease of use is impressive whilst its quite flexible - I see this as an ideal backup tool for both beginners and professionals. The fact that this program is lightweight on my memory is an added plus. The first backup takes a bit of time on large volumes (mine was around 150GB and included videos and high quality images) but hardware speed limitations have to be factored in. The subsequent backups were very fast.

This product is definitely recommended, 5 stars included!

"Great... this is quite like Mac's time machine"

December 17, 2009  |  By rice776

 |  Version: Oops!Backup 2.0

Pros

Easy setup, really lightweight, slick interface... does exactly what it's meant to and gives you the perfect amount of info you need. I think I'll stick with this for a while.

Cons

First backup took quite a while, but I had over 200GB so I guess it is to be expected. Subsequent backups were really fast though.

Summary

The idea behind the restore (BackInTime) interface was not immediately clear at first... but after backing up a few times, its strenght becomes clear in that you can not only browse and preview different versions of a file, you can also restore a whole folder (or backup set) to a point in time.
The reverse delta feature looks like a great idea, but it was not clear how this works and how it affects my backup... information about this was lacking.
However, support were helpful and really quick to send me an explanation... always a good sign... and this is what triggered me to write something here.
This is worth trying out... it's definitely my favourite toy at the moment.

"Great product, functional and user-friendly interface"

December 17, 2009  |  By dive50

 |  Version: Oops!Backup 2.0

Pros

A clean user interface that makes it very convenient for advanced users as well as easy-to-use by less experienced users. The wizard assisted setup makes configuration a piece of cake!

Cons

Can't find the option to travel back to the future! Maybe Altaro can consider this for a future version?! :)

Summary

I'm an IT consultant and provide tech support to various home users & small businesses. Since I tried this program I ended up recommending it to all my clients. The auto-detection of removable drives is awesome and very convenient if you want to keep backups on a pendrive. Just plugin your backup disk, wait a few seconds and Oops will do the rest. Unplug the disk and you have a safe backup on your USB drive. And the best thing about it, you don't even need a mouse click!

The management dashboard clearly indicates when you are running out of backup disk space. If you want to switch your backup location/disk, all you need to do is tell Oops to use the new disk, and you don't need to worry about copying or moving backup folders.

If need be, you also get raw access to your backup files which you can browse with file explorer on any PC, even where Oops is not available. However if you want to secure your backups, just Oops with Truecrypt (open source freeware) or some other encryption software and you get the benefit of encrypted backups.

There are a whole load of backup software products out there. Most of them have great backup functionality, however very few have the ability of hassle free restore like Oops. In the end what's the use of backing up all your valuable data if it's hell to retrieve when you need it most!

I fully recommend this product and surely deserves 5 stars!
