"Badly broken under Panther."
Version: OmniOutliner 2.2.5
Summary
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
Just now I tried to log out of OS X Panther with an OO outline open. It put up a dialog asking me to save changes, cancel, or quit.
It is not responding now matter what button I hit.
I am going to have to kill OO and lose my changes.
OO is badly broken under Panther.
Another problem is that many operations seem to be on the order of 10 times slower under Panther than they were under Jaguar. If OmniGroup doesn't fix these issues VERY soon, I will have to migrate all my outlines to Circus Ponies Notebook.
Don't get me wrong, I love OO and have used it very happily for quite some time. It just isn't usable under Panther in this release. -
"One more reason to switch to a Mac"

The XML format makes OO one of the best -- if not the best -- document development tools on any platform. Using xml conversion tools you can go from one source file to just about format you like, picking and choose the content as you go. A great example is the built Outliner-to-Keynote conversion. Thanks OmniGroup!

"Absolutely essential"
Version: OmniOutliner 2.2.4
Summary

I paid for OmniOutliner from the Apple store to work on a specific project, and find it absolutely essential. I use it everyday, for all sorts of tasks. I've looked at alternatives -- and I still check out everything in it's category -- but I still choose this program over all others. There are some features I'd like to see -- tabs would be one, linking outlines would be another -- but these are nice-to-haves, not necessities. I've sent feedback, and got a personal reply, telling me that everything I wanted was in the feature queue. Of course, Omni being Omni, there's no word on exactly *when* they'll be released.
Regardless, OmniOutliner has everything I need and the design makes perfect sense. It works like it should. Amen. -
"Great Product"
Version: OmniOutliner 2.2.3
Summary

When I got this on my Powerbook G4 15 inch, I wondered if I would ever use it. After all, I have MS Office and Word had an outliner. Just for the heck of it, I started buidling my outline for a Legal Specialization Exam I am taking. Now I can't imagine having done it without OmniOutliner. My outline is rather large so one of the most useful features I find is the "Hoist" command, which allows you to extract a section of the outline and work on it in a separate window. It's still saved as part of the overall outline, so no need to fear losing any information. One small complaint, there should be a keyboard short-cut for underlining. I use underlining a lot when citing cases. It's not so bad, though, because there are keyboard short-cuts for bold and italics, so I can use either of those. I got this free, with my Powerbook, but from what I know now, I'd gladly buy this product. -
"One feature from perfect"
Version: OmniOutliner 2.2.2
Summary

Yes I second all previous feedback about:
A) OmniOutliner beeing a superb programme. Without it the Mac would have a missing link.
B) It would be perfect with an Palm programme and/or conduit.
Look at ThoughtManager for Palm, then look at OmniOutliner. Isn'nt that a perfect match?
Someone, please convince them to marry :-) -
"This needs a Palm coduit to be perfect"
Version: OmniOutliner 2.2.2

Maybe connect to ThoughtManager, maaybe something else, but to be really perfect, OO needs a Palm version and a condduit. THAT would be truly spiffy.
It's also STILL missing the abilioty to add imaages to the Notes field :( (a feature that was present in Liner from the beginning).
Otherwise, nice, solid. Just missing some crucial stuff (crucial to me, ymmv) -

The html export is awesome. I'm happy to see that OmniOutliner exports valid XHTML 1.0 Transitional markup. Way cool.
