OmniGraffle Pro for Mac User Reviews

"Great Software / Steep Learning Curve"
Version: OmniGraffle Pro 5.2.3
Pros
This software will do anything you want it to. From presentations, to specs. Great features
Cons
It does take awhile to get a hold of everything the program has to offer
Summary
Bottom line, this is great software and is amazing to use after you get ahold of the learning curve!

"The best single app for Mac OS X!"
Version: OmniGraffle Pro 5.2.3
Pros
This product is extremely well thought out and implemented. The learning curve is minimal to get basic diagrams going. On screen dimension and line-up guides are brilliant and easy to use. Key: a BIG monitor or use magnification when proofing.
Cons
The documentation is minimal, and typically not needed to the extent that other apps would demand more documentation -- simply because much is self explanatory or easily discovered in use.
Summary
Buy this APPLICATION it is fantastic for producing graphics that are fast to assemble and look totally professional.
Great company (Omnigroup) makes a few other excellent products, but Omnigraffle is the best!
I used this tool EXCLUSIVELY when producing the several dozen graphics for my forthcoming book on cloud security. I've used Omnigraffle for years, and it just keeps getting better with each new release. -
"Powerhouse program made even better by AppleScript"
Version: OmniGraffle Pro 5.2.2
Pros
Intuitive interface, lots of power for manipulating objects either directly or with AppleScript.
Cons
This is a big program. While you can do simple stuff easily and quickly, to really take advantage of its power requires study. Not cheap.
Summary
One of my applications involves generating and printing batches of individually customized blank forms. Each form has a unique bar code and serial number.
I wrote an AppleScript that combines OmniGraffle with calls to a shell program to (generate the bar code graphics). It works great. I wouldn't have a clue how to do it any other way. -
"OmniGraffle is worth the price"
Version: OmniGraffle Pro 5.0.1 beta 3

Let's face it, quality software is not easy to find (or to build), and you get what you pay for. All things considered, OmniGraffle's price (as well as OmniFocus' price, for that matter) may not be a bargain, but it's certainly fair and reasonable. I upgraded immediately and haven't regretted it!
Besides, as others have mentioned, OmniGraffle is simply an awesome app and very well designed. It's easily worth the price. Quality is more important than price, in my mind. -
"Still good value IMHO"
Version: OmniGraffle Pro 5.0
Summary

It's sad that so many people consider Omnigraffle Pro expensive - personally I still consider it excellent value (take a look at Visio's pricing for comparison) - and there's always the standard version of the product, which is significantly cheaper. Certainly when I originally upgraded to the 'Pro' version when it first appeared, my immediate feeling was that it was ridiculously cheap by comparison with Visio, SmartDraw and similar applications.
Personally, upgrading to v5 was a no-brainer, as Omnigraffle Pro is one of my most used apps, and has been for years (I've been using it pretty much since the beginning).
I use it almost daily for a massive range of work projects: network diagrams, flow charts, organisational charts, planning of web sites, signs for our noticeboard (it's quick than using InDesign for small internal projects), I even used it to produce a very complex map recently.
It's one of those software tools that I really don't know how anyone can manage without - and is, for me, one of the real Mac 'Killer applications'
I've said it before, and I'll say it again - Omnigraffle gets my vote for being the best-designed application on the platform. -
"A must-have piece of software"
Version: OmniGraffle Pro 4.1 beta 1
Summary

I've used OmniWeb as my preferred browser for years but didn't really look seriously at OmniGraffle until I started playing with a copy bundled with my PowerBook when I didn't have anything at hand to do a quick flowchart. I've been hooked ever since and have used the Pro version since it's debut. This is simply one of the most useful and flexible pieces of software for any platform, and I've dropped many PC-weenie's jaws with it. I've used it for everything from database design to floorplans to presentations. I've even used it to create press-ready graphics for a trade show exhibit. I cant' think of any three programs which could combine to replace it, and it just keeps getting better. You want this software. You need this software. -
"Excellent Software"
Version: OmniGraffle Pro 4.0

This is a very good product. It's both easy to use, and it runs well on G4 hardware.
My *only* criticism is that the stencils are not as extensive or as well done (in some cases) as Visio. But Mac users are supposed to be more creative anyway... -
"Fantastic product with constant improvements"

Registered when I became addicted to OmniGraffle. I use it for pretty much all charting tasks and it has tremendously increased my productivity... which I cannot say from too many applications. -
"Stunningly good"

When I want to make PC users jealous of my Mac, I show them OmniGraffle. This program turns a usually laborious task into a simple pleasure. Charting is effortless and the results are top-notch.
The new version is a major upgrade and adds a host of wonderful improvements. I can now use OmniGraffle readily in a design environment thanks to master pages and SVG export. The outline view makes creating large, complex structures easy, and the new palettes ease up the screen real estate on my 12" PB.
Wonderful program which just keeps getting better. One of the few programs I'd give five stars to. Go Omnigroup! -
"Close to perfect"
Version: OmniGraffle Pro 4.0rc1
Summary

Having used OmniGraffle since version 2, I'm really impressed by the new improvements and features. As I'm mostly on a PowerBook with a widescreen display, I would prefer the seperate toolbar in a vertical style similar to Photoshop. Having the toolbar outside the document on the upper screen border, it needs too much space, especially, if you have paper layout (more high than wide).
As others have mentioned, the Icon is really ugly. I still use the one from 2.0. It's not perfect but it doesn't burn your eyes.
The text-button (labeled with a A) in the text palette doesn't look like a button that reveals the standard OS X font window. I'm not sure what's wrong with it, but I don't like the look.
Otherwise OG looks and feels great and it's usefulness for my work has been much improved. I'm looking forward to the final version with a new manual (to find all the new features) and hopefully some new stencils (the one that are shown on your beta-website).
Highly recommendable.
