Pros
Once upon a time, I could download images from the Google Earth server, write UTM grid lines on them, and use the resulting prints with my GPS as a base for my geologic explorations of some volcanoes in Mexico. Somebody who is not a geologist cannot imagine how much easier field geology is (was) with OKMap. THAT was one of the reasons the Google Earth people were given an award at the 2011 Geological Society of America annual meeting.
I only hope there are some cultural map servers that do for other users what the Google server used to do for me.Cons
Google rescinded the OKMap api key within weeks of them getting the GSA award thereby ruining its usefulness, at least by me. I think the award should be rescinded, as well.
Trying to use the photos without the UTM grid last week was maddening and when you're lost on a lava flow, you're really lost!Summary
OKMap was a great donationware program but, alas, it depended on other people and the other people turned out to be EVIL.
