Version: NoteTab Pro 5.7
Pros: Nicest feature for me is the ability to catch the clipboard content on CUT or COPY actions. The clip book function is a mighty tool to extend the functionality of the program.
Cons: The handling of Unicode-files is bad (only action is to load as read-only to protect the Unicode notation). Same with DOS text files, you can save a file DOS coded, but it will be reloaded ANSI coded. So special characters are lost or better wrong printed.
So for ANSI only use, NoteTab is to be recommended because of ease of use, good functionality and good extensibility (and because of my special gimmick with the clipboard). But definitely not to use with different character coding.

Version: NoteTab Pro 4.95
Pros: Once I started using this program I couldn't even think of going back to Note Pad. I used NoteTab Light first, and loved it so much I bought the Pro version. The tabbed interface alone sold me on this product, but the clip library is one of the handiest features ever. Use theirs or make up your own, the clips are instantly inserted into your text. Icons make selecting a function quick and easy. Line numbering is a great feature of this version, too. There are actually so many features, I bet you won't have time to use them all!

Version: NoteTab Pro 4.95
"The friendliest and most versatile text editor for Windows, period."
Pros: Too many pros to list. It's truly the swiss army knife of Windows text editors. I've tried many others, some without the "cons" mentioned below, but always come back to NoteTab Pro.
Cons: Regex is slightly limited ("greedy"-only). Can't do UTF-8/16. No macro (clip) recording capability. Windows-only. Previously, I would have given it 5 stars; if and when the first three issues are addressed, I would unhesitatingly give it 5 stars again.

"Excellent text editor; I use it many times daily."
Pros: Very flexible. Tabbed interface supports multiple open files. Can hide nicely in SysTray when minimized. Good support for html tags. Easy to add user extensions. Well supported. Automatic capture from Windows clipboard. Fine spell checker. Plain and regular-expression searches. Auto launch a browser by clicking URL in text. Supports Windows, DOS, Mac, Unix, and EBCDIC text files. Many pre-written specialized extension packages available.
Cons: Doesn't handle unicode. Incremental improvements on hold awaiting major re-write. Macro language is very complex, though powerful. Won't handle single lines (logical paragraphs) longer than 32K. No way to edit binary files.

"Toss out MS Notepad - This is all you will ever need!"
Pros: Easy to use, replaces MS Notepad if you want, and with several add-in libraries, there will never be a need to use anything else. Supports just about any programming language, displays results in multiple browsers, simple interface with ease of use and understanding. Nothing better, and the price is great! I have owned this for several years and it still is not even close to being outdated.
Cons: Just cannot think of anything. Wish MS would use it to replace Notepad.
