Once you explore the power of NoteTab Pro, you may find this text editor beautiful despite its off-putting interface. The Pro version adds tag highlighting and allows you to program your own features. The left-hand column displays a list of commands, called clips, that do anything from inserting bits of text to generating code. Each library, the roster of which appears as buttons at the bottom of the screen, contains its own set of clips. The FTP library, for example, lets you create server profiles, connect, upload and download files, and issue various commands. The publisher's site offers many user-created libraries, or you can make your own. You can create your own clips by pressing Ctrl-Alt-F2 and edit them easily.
The Tidy HTML clip (in the HTML and Utilities libraries) incorporates the free download HTML Tidy, available on Download.com. While the TopStyle library similarly requires a CSS editor of that name, we couldn't get it to work. We would like to see a trial of the spelling and thesaurus features, too. NoteTab Pro isn't a tool for casual users, but power users and programmers should find plenty to love.

"Have HAPPILY used since v3... worth every penny!!"
Pros: FAST, intuitive, versatile and very powerful text editor! Use since 1996 or so for standard .txt files and as a primary .html editor.
Love the color-coding of content, tabular interface, ability to find/use/create commonly used snippets...Cons: Must be some, but haven't found 'em. Was a bit buggy and slow years ago, but long since fixed!
Summary: Unless you just use your PC to waste time on the web, and download photos and music this is a must-have app. Simple, reliable, powerful and affordable... wish all apps were as such. Highly recommended.

- multiple file opening and easy to navigate between tabs.Cons: - I would like it to be able to view html files with an internal viewer instead of having to view them in external browser. But it's not that much of a problem, after all.

"Outstanding editor for web development & maintenance!"
Pros: Easy to use. Macros easy to code just by following examples in library. A stable and highly useful editor!
Cons: Only one issue: as far as I know, not available for Linus/Ubuntu. On that platform I have to use another product. Sad.
Summary: I started several years ago with the light (free) version, and quickly cut over to the Pro version. I've tried other ASCII editors for HTML development and maintenance on other platforms: NoteTab Pro remains my favorite. Outstanding!
