Once you explore the power of NoteTab Pro, you may find this text editor beautiful despite its off-putting interface. The Pro version adds tag highlighting and allows you to program your own features. The left-hand column displays a list of commands, called clips, that do anything from inserting bits of text to generating code. Each library, the roster of which appears as buttons at the bottom of the screen, contains its own set of clips. The FTP library, for example, lets you create server profiles, connect, upload and download files, and issue various commands. The publisher's site offers many user-created libraries, or you can make your own. You can create your own clips by pressing Ctrl-Alt-F2 and edit them easily.
The Tidy HTML clip (in the HTML and Utilities libraries) incorporates the free download HTML Tidy, available on Download.com. While the TopStyle library similarly requires a CSS editor of that name, we couldn't get it to work. We would like to see a trial of the spelling and thesaurus features, too. NoteTab Pro isn't a tool for casual users, but power users and programmers should find plenty to love.

Version: NoteTab Pro 5.3
Pros: The more I use NoteTab Pro, the more features I find that I love. The PasteClips is invaluable to me, saving hours of repetative typing or cut/pasting in any application. All I do is type 3 or 4 characters, hightlight them and press Ctrl+C.
Wonderful full-blown text editor, too :O)
Cons: Occasionally fouls up copying when MS Office products are in use and have started a multi-item copy list. I get a "Cannot open clipboard" error. Restarting NoteTab usually fixes it.

"It's a lot more than just a text editor"
Pros: It's hard to describe this piece of software. Calling it a text editor would be belittling it. NoteTab can do much, much more.

"Best editor for text, web pages, automated file creation."
Pros: Best features: tabbed files, scripted functions/clipbooks, color-coded HTML tags. I created my own clip libraries by modifying the ones supplied to make quick work of: creating stock web pages, search/replace, file compare, open other apps, view edited page in browser, FTP web page that's updated regularly - I still use other software for general FTP and wordprocessing, but use Notetab Pro to start them with the proper site or template! There's much more I haven't even tried. Great support. Amazing value!
