Once you explore the power of NoteTab Pro, you may find this text editor beautiful despite its off-putting interface. The Pro version adds tag highlighting and allows you to program your own features. The left-hand column displays a list of commands, called clips, that do anything from inserting bits of text to generating code. Each library, the roster of which appears as buttons at the bottom of the screen, contains its own set of clips. The FTP library, for example, lets you create server profiles, connect, upload and download files, and issue various commands. The publisher's site offers many user-created libraries, or you can make your own. You can create your own clips by pressing Ctrl-Alt-F2 and edit them easily.
The Tidy HTML clip (in the HTML and Utilities libraries) incorporates the free download HTML Tidy, available on Download.com. While the TopStyle library similarly requires a CSS editor of that name, we couldn't get it to work. We would like to see a trial of the spelling and thesaurus features, too. NoteTab Pro isn't a tool for casual users, but power users and programmers should find plenty to love.

Pros: I like the flexibility, especially having a few text files I like to access frequenty all available with a single click to bring up Note Tab. Customized routines are also a bonus.

"The most awesome and versitile ASCII text editor ever developed!!!"
Pros: I have need for a lot of files that are strictly ASCII text with no other ctrl characters and such. Notetab Pro provides this, giving me the very clean text files essential to my needs. The power and flexibility of the macros (clip books) is fantastic. I have been able to tailor some very specific clips to some complex needs and they work great!!
