Once you explore the power of NoteTab Light, you may find this text editor beautiful despite its hectic interface. At its core, NoteTab Light is to Windows' Notepad as an iPhone is to a rotary phone. NoteTab Light incorporates top-level tabs similar to most Web browsers, so that you can manage several different projects at once, and it can automatically replace Notepad so that Notepad's icons open NoteTab instead--although not in Windows Vista.
However, it's more than a mere replacement. The left column displays a list of commands, called Clips, that do anything from inserting bits of text to generating code. Each library, the roster of which appears as tabs at the bottom of the screen, contains its own set of clips. The FTP library, for example, lets you create server profiles, connect, upload and download files, and issue various commands. The HTML library auto-completes HTML tags. The publisher's site offers many user-created libraries, or you can make your own. You can create your own clips by pressing Ctrl-Alt-F2.
Several of the clips, including the Tidy HTML clip and the TopStyle library, require secondary freeware apps to support them, but NoteTab will direct you to their Web pages if it finds them missing. NoteTab Light isn't a tool for casual users, but power users and programmers should find plenty to love.

Version: NoteTab Light 6.12
"Used for years. Always on top!"
Pros: Main advantage is the capability to keep the pages within the program itself.
Cons: A bit difficult to understand some of the "find & replace" posibilities...

Version: NoteTab Light 6.12
Pros: I have low vision, I've looked everywhere for an editor that I can customize with a dark background so I can see what I'm doing. This program would get 5 stars from me just for that. Average users will have a ball. Two thumbs up!
Cons: Non that I've found so far.
Summary: Downloaded easily with no problems. Installed like a breeze. The layout is logical and intuitive if you've used Word, or other similar programs. If you haven't there is an extensive help index, with clear instructions in plain English. It's light on... read more >>

Version: NoteTab Light 6.12
"One of the few programs I MUST have since 1999"
Pros: World-class example of what a computer program should be - lean and mean. In the age of bloatware, NTL speaks volumes of the developer's skill. It has all the features that one would want from a text editor, and more.
Cons: Nothing worth mentioning actually.
Summary: I've had my own computer since the end of 1998. When I discovered Note Tab Light in early 1999, it has always been on all my computers ever since. NTL is something that I use each and every time I'm at the computer. I'm a freelance journalist, and m... read more >>

Version: NoteTab Light 6.12
"A great product! A true reliable Swiss watch."
Pros: Stability, capacity to handle large files, enormous resources within the program, ability to strip .html junk, many options for customizing presentation and toolbar. Useful pasteboard for boilerplate, tabbed structure, useful for stripping format.
Cons: Nothing of any importance on a free text editor. Perhaps a better ability for handing text blocks would be useful, that would make for me an absolutely perfect product.
Summary:
There are reviewers that claim that there is no numbering facility for pages, but that facility exists under "Modify" . I use it frequently to compile numbered lists.
