    "Malware that you pay for."

    May 5, 2013  |   By thepwnks

    Version: Norton AntiVirus 2013 20.1

    Pros

You get to see why so many people complain about the program.

    Cons

Bloatware, blocks minuscule files and prevents legitimate programs from running properly. Frequently glitches to the point you cant even open the program without a restart. THE REMOVER DID NOT EVEN WORK AT FIRST! I had to start my computer in safe mode just to get the remover to launch. No program should require another to remove it. That's what the difference is between legitimate programs and malware like Norton.

    Summary

Save yourself the pain of Norton and DO NOT INSTALL! This is malware. Do yourself a favor and do research and gather information from USERS not from REVIEWERS who often skew the review to be positive so they don't make any enemies. Ignore the 'critics' review and look at the thousands of people dissatisfied with Symantec products. Would an "Outstanding" antivirus get this many negative reviews? I think not.

Do your homework and save yourself the trouble of removing this program the same day you downloaded it.

    "Norton is really poor"

    April 14, 2013  |   By cliffchandler

    Version: Norton AntiVirus 2013 20.1

    Pros

I cannot think of one good thing about Norton Products.

    Cons

I had what was the second most expensive Norton Virus scan and it turned out to be a joke. My laptop received a Trojan and the Norton Scan despite being faithfully updated every morning failed to stop the Trojan. On top of that when I visited the Norton site they wanted over $100 to purchase another product to remove the virus. This was something I was led to believe that the Virus Scan I had originally purchased was supposed to do.
It ended up costing me $165 to repair my laptop. I have sent Norton / Symantec several letters requesting a refund for the Norton scan that did not live up to its advertising without an answer. I also sent several letters stating that they should reimburse me for the cost of repairing my laptop, no answer to those requests either. They haven't sent an apology nor any other correspondence.

    Summary

DO NOT BUY NORTON, IT DOESN'T WORK, IT SLOWS YOUR COMPUTER DOWN AND THE SERVICE IS NON-EXISTENT.

"Impressed by the improvements (2013 version)"

    April 2, 2013  |   By candiedbug

    Version: Norton AntiVirus 2013 20.1

    Pros

    FAST!
    Excellent detection rate
    Low system resource use

    Cons

    Pretty but clunky UI

    Summary

I got this free with my ISP subscription. After uninstalling the other software that came along (Constant Guard) Norton has been performing amazingly good, even detecting my test malware that my previous AV couldnt find (AVG). I used to detest Norton (deservedly) but with this new version Im a believer. PLEASE DONT SCREW IT UP on future version.

"Incredibly Frustrating, acts like a virus"

    April 2, 2013  |   By BradleyyeldarB

    Version: Norton AntiVirus 2013 20.1

    Pros

    reinstalls rapidly

    Cons

My computer started crashing and i noticed somehow this program had been installed. I think this product came onto my computer bundled with some adobe software, i certainly didnt intentionally ask for it. Well i thought i could uninstall it and that would be that, however having uninstalled it, it would some how creep back on and start a reinstallation process each time i started my computer, slowing me down, wasting my time, it turned out to be incredibly difficult to remove, much like a virus. i used the search tool to find all norton and symnatec named products and remove them. it still tried to reinstall. i downloaded a special norton removal tool for 2013, ran this, and it would still start reinstalling. i researched online and found many people struggling with this, in the end i had to remove the program, run an unstallation process, delete temporary files, restart, download and run removal tool, remove temporary files and restart, and its seems to be gone... for now !

    Summary

this is one of the most problematic viral software i have had to deal with. im pissed off at the amount of time i had to waste with this program, a spanner in the works of a productive day.

"CNET "forgot" to mention its STILL a COMPLETE RIP OFF"

    March 29, 2013  |   By sp8472

    Version: Norton AntiVirus 2013 20.1

    Pros

...NOT HAVING it on your PC + filling "SEMANTIC"s <PUN INTENDED - as in HYPERBOLE + PROPAGANDA> DEVIOUS + SLY coffers further. The reason why SYMANTEC spends so much on such er... "promo" <C.O.U.G.H.S> in big software publications is because there isn't enough gullible, brainwashed, PC ignorant PC users around for long enough that have good experience in general with their SUB standard products, worse their customer "support" - you only have to go + read their OWN "support" forums to see how CNET review's must be somehow completely mixed up with a TOTALLY different + contradictorily EFFICIENT AV software

    Cons

Why pay not just for the product but the UTTER DAYLIGHT ROBBERY YEARLY subscriptions when Avast et al does it all INFINITELY more superior with loads of RELEVANT ADD ONS using the LATEST technologies (cf. yesterdays ineffective BLOATWARE ones in "SYMANTEC(pun intended - Symantec buying (out) Norton(once good) name)AV" ) ALL for FREE! Avast et al even DETECT virus's! GASPS! not the VERY occasional VERY FALSE positive of "Symantec AV")

    Summary

There's a reason why Norton AV is common ONLY among PC beginners (if we except the insane)...

"Questionable online renwl/sales technqs / poor cust svc"

    November 26, 2012  |   By 1dnvrcust

    Version: Norton AntiVirus 2013 20.1

    Pros

    impression of virus protection

    Cons

Preselected online options whether for unwanted additional products or as permission to auto bill your cc info for future auto renewals and product fees.

Untrained cust svc reps prepared to hear and answer only certain questions and unable to hear or address anything outside the list.

Consequently, no resolve to questions like "is there a 'lite' version to load to my netbook as initially advertised but never found for download?".....but plenty of lectures on how to check for system compatibility to know if Norton can be loaded to systems its been loaded to and running on for a year now.....

    Summary

Lousy if not flat out rude customer service. I just (last night) renewed my Norton Internet service for 3 computers - $20 for virus protection and another 10 added without my selection for virus removal service (one I didn't catch til the end bill - others added but deselected prior to this point). I had to call customer service today.....I was on hold for almost 15 minutes waiting to get a customer service rep on the line, and then I got someone who only seemed to understand and be equipped to answer the most basic questions, and with a corrective tone as if I wasn't getting something I should naturally know. When I asked about a "lite" version advertised for netbooks at purchase, but not found at time of download to my netbook, she repeatedly interrupted me to inform me of system compatibility and service packs and that I can now (a year after loading and indication of being covered on my netbook - even if bogged down somewhat) check to see if I have a service pack so that Norton can be successfully loaded to the same netbook.......we went around like this for a good 10 minutes over the same question, which I still have no answer to.....but she did make a point of educating me on her definition of compatibility and what I should know about her knowledge to appreciate why she answers my questions as she did for this call........my point is, I still don't have an answer to my question.....still no idea if there's a "lite" version as advertised a year ago on initial purchase.
Terrible and completely inadequate customer service......very good reason to use another product with better trained customer service prepared to assist customers rather than cut off, correct, redirect, and misdirect.

Additionally, they promote, sell, and renew in a way that I find sneaky and not at all up-front; while I was navigating their screens to renew/continue my coverage, I noticed automatically selected and indicated agreement to utilize any entered billing info for any future "auto" renewals or additions.....which I was not open to and am not, and while I noticed the less than so noticeable text with pre checked box for said authorization in order to uncheck it...I have to say, I now wonder what will show up on my card unauthorized. I printed the screens and will file complaints should anything appear in the future....but I won't be renewing or using them for another year after this one for both the terrible customer service, and the deceitful feel to their permission acquisition practices, data collection and usage, and sales practices. I got to the final bill and noticed they'd also added a virus removal product I'd not selected myself, for an additional $10 to the initial renewal......I went ahead and kept it out of fear, but know other products I've used don't separate the services - and again, I didn't select it, they just assumed and tacked it on for me to catch or not. Incredibly questionable business practices.
