"Not worth the trouble"
Version: Norton AntiVirus 2012 19.5
Pros
Once installed and running it is (on a low level) effective.
Cons
Installation was faulty on a couple machines. I had several problematic events in the attempt to simply install Norton. I ended up having to install the free version and using the upgrade option because the download manager did not function properly. Note: this was only on a couple of the 10 identical machines/images I placed Norton on, it worked fine on the others.
My boss had forgotten his password, and the link Norton provides online for the password reset did not work. So I had the pleasure of contacting customer support.
The representative could not understand me at all. I do not have an accent and speak plain English, but I had to spell my name per the letter 6 times before she could get to the next step.
I then was able to ask for a password reset, and she went into a long ordeal on how I needed to change my computer settings to setup the antivirus. I gave up at the point and hung up, it will faster and easier on my own.Summary
The product is simple and cheap, and is a some what effective antivirus tool. With that said, it can be a hassle to get it installed, and don't expect too much out of customer support.
I do not recommend this product since there are better alternatives, and well worth the extra money. We had been using Avast prior to Norton, but switched to save some money. I hope to move back to Avast once our keys expire with Norton. -

"Not a good choice"
Version: Norton AntiVirus 2012 19.5
Pros
Nothing to speak of
Cons
Slowed down my PC. Lots of features that nobody really needs, I don't anyway. My PC was infected with a virus while using this.
Summary
I recently purchased a PC, I felt secure and safe with the free 6 month Norton product, but it was a huge let down when I got infected. I could have chosen a number of antivirus products with this deal when I bought my laptop, but I was a fool and went with Norton because it was a brand I knew of, so I figured it was the best. I will never make that mistake again.

"CNET'S REVIEW IS PAID FOR BY NORTON, JUNK ANTIVIRUS APP"
Version: Norton AntiVirus 2012 19.5
Pros
Lets any Trojan, malware and spyware into your PC and fails to detect very much of it (7 out of 10 Trojan viruses weren't detected nor removed) while Avira Personal Free Edition detected and removed the other 7 viruses that Norton failed to remove.
Cons
Too numerous to list.
Summary
Absolutely worthless software! I'm shocked people would actually believe anything 'promoted' by cnet now, since it's clearly obvious many of their so-called 'Editor Reviews' are paid-for by sponsoring corporate interests, in this case, Norton Antivirus themselves. These are biased reviews, driven not by your interests, but the revenue you create by downloading their recommendations.
Even the most amateur of users are discovering that paid recommendations aren't always based on the most sound advice, rather the reverse since cnet is paid to promote notoriously worthless software like Norton Antivirus, software that is best left unopened as part of the 'free bundled software' that came with your new PC or Laptop.
Avira Free Personal Edition is light-years ahead of Norton bloatware, FREE is too high a cost when its your time and energy being wasted on manually trying to fight off the viruses that Norton allows freely into your PC, then ignores it as the viruses wreak havoc on your data. -
