This free Firefox extension blocks JavaScript from running without your permission, but NoScript doesn't allow you to stop its own devices.
After installation, NoScript adds only a small blue button marked "S" above the toolbar. To configure the program options, simply click the button to display a very conventional interface. You can dive right in, white-listing the sites you'll allow to run scripts; or set it to allow or partially allow scripts so you can make determinations as you surf. NoScript even played a WAV audio alert to notify us that scripts had been partially or completely stopped.
Among its more advanced features is the ability to forbid plug-ins from running on untrusted sites. However, you can't stop NoScript itself from running. The application doesn't give a stop option, and if you choose to uninstall it you'll have to do so via Firefox's Tools menu. But for those people who are tired of JavaScript bullying its way onto their PCs, this one is a keeper.
Publisher's description
From InformAction :NoScript provides extra protection for your Mozilla/Firefox or Flock browser: this extension allows JavaScript and Java execution only for trusted domains of your choice. This whitelist based pre-emptive script blocking approach prevents exploitation of security vulnerabilities with no loss of functionality. You can enable JavaScript/Java execution for sites you trust with a simple left-click on the NoScript status bar icon or using the context menu in pop-up statusbar.
CNET Editor's Note: The Download Now link will prompt a local download of the Firefox extension. To install the extension directly, open the file using your Firefox browser.

Version: NoScript 1.9.9.11
Pros: Lets ME decide who can run a java script and who can't. A lot of driveby-by-javascript is out there so it's nice to control when the scripts are run.
Cons: It can be a hassle picking and choosing who can script and who can't but I've been hijacked by scripts before and that's an even BIGGER hassle.
Summary: Once I allow the sites I visit a lot, I hardly notice NoScripts. It's only when I visit new sites, which is why I love this add-on, because it helps me feel a bit more secure browsing to new sites.
