"Fails to copy all files to the computer"
Version: Nikon Transfer 1.5.2
Pros
Automatic open and automatic dismount of the CF card is handy as is the auto creation of a new folder to use for temporary holding until files can be sorted or deleted.
Cons
Using this on a Mac with the latest OS X version the Nikon Transfer program usually fails to copy all the files across, sometimes leave 3 behind and other times stopping 20% of the way.
Summary
Finder is nearly as easy and a lot more reliable.

"Simply superb - for camera AND iPad images"
Version: Nikon Transfer 1.5.2
Pros
Actually better than the Windows version - it transfers from (virtually?) any device with images to your Mac
Cons
It will launch automatically when you connect an iPad or iPhone to your Mac for any reason (e.g. calendar and music sync) - but you can kill it and move on with a click
Summary
When combined with ViewNX2, Nikon Transfer is a slick workflow system. It enables you to choose which files to transfer from your camera, card reader or i-Device, where you want to store them - and then, if you have ViewNX2 installed, it will open a fine Lightroom-like display from which you can select any editor on your Mac.
The best part is, it bypasses the arcane iTunes interface and gives you direct access to the images on your iPad or iPhone - just as you would expect on a Windows system. I was stunned the first time it did that - I swear the Apple developers went WAY out of their way to make sure their language obfuscates simple tasks like file transfer.
I love it, You will, too.
