Nicecast is great, I've been broadcasting 24/7 for three years now. It has never let me down. On the firewall/router comment below, I say that unless you have the savvy to adjust your own equipment, you shouldn't be doing it. And why is it Rogue Amoeba's fault you don't have such knowledge?

I was very happy with the software and the customer service people who were very helpful, which is always a big plus with me, i'm a web designer so deal with lots of customer service people and it's so nice just to be able to send an email, not have to wait days and days for a reply and get a real person responding and actually telling you what you want to know -

Pros
Easy set-up for people without routers (and with, in most cases), you can broadcast in no-time, the support usually gets back to you within a day, you don't have to pay for bandwith, this covers the whole 9 yards! There is also a helpful support forum on their website.
Cons
The manual isn't that great.

We've been using Nicecast to broadcast a homemade internet radio station http://www.flatfourradio.co.uk for more than six months now and it's absolutely excellent. In the Apple tradition it manages to be easy-to-use yet incredibly flexible and powerful at the same time.
I should add that the support from the company is excellent too - I've asked lots of difficult questions (on the messageboards and via email) and they're very helpful.
It's very, very well worth the small registration fee. -

This is ridiculously overpriced. If it were $20 or less, I would've bought it straight away. But, for $40, I will never buy this program based on principle alone.
As the previous poster mentioned, there are many professional applications that come full with CDs, boxes, and manuals that cost the same as this app, and even less sometimes. This app is not even in the same league.
Again, lower the price and you will sell a lot more, trust me. Most of my friends feel the same way.... only one, of the ten+, of us that want it has actually bought it. So, that's one $40 sale, instead of the potential 10 $20 sales... you do the math...

And I agree- well worth the forty bucks, but you don't really need a lot of expensive studio peripherals to enjoy it completely. The static thing mentioned earlier is no big secret for crying out loud- just pay the shareware fee and it goes away. -

Out of all of the shoutcast/icecast programs out there, this one is the very best. I have found a way to bypass the 20 minute limiting static, but will NOT explain how it is done, because I respect the author of this work of Mac art (it doesn't involve hacking, it is all in-app). This is truly a Mac program to it's core.
The $40 price tag isn't bad at all. If you plan to put this to practical use, like hosting a live online show, $40 is nothing compared to the price of microphones, mixers, phone tap (for live call-ins) and other hardware.
My internet connection is still in the dark ages, so I have no practical use for this app except broadcasting my free-styled electronica to my fellow artist in another state (in more ways than one) who has a far better connection than I do. I do have plans for when I do get a faster connection, and when that happens, I do plan on purchasing this app. (please don't raise the price before then, because as I said, the other hardware is expensive).
Best Features
â?¢ FX Plug-Ins: You can have up to 100 plugins going at once (though I haven't used more than 2). Everything from EQs, Filters, Distortion, everything.
â?¢ Broadcast Archiving: Archives can be saved at a higher quality than the broadcast. Low quality feed, high quality saves.
â?¢ User Listing: Displaying time connection, data sent, OS info, and the connecting program (winamp, itunes, etc).
â?¢ Live365 Support: This is yet another expense, starting at $15 a month for live broadcast with 10 max listeners (more listener space = more expensive package). -

I can't BELIEVE how easy it was to get going with this! Install it, start it, tell it which piece of software (or which audio input) it's supposed to be broadcasting, and press go! It has worked for me for about a month and given no problems (I listen in from work etc), on a Mac 10.2 with a home ADSL connection.
