Publisher's Description
From Crystal Art Software:
NewsLeecher is a Usenet downloading (leeching) application. It downloads movies, pictures, MP3 files, and software applications, and uses it's inline engine to assemble and decode all the downloads. NewsLeecher takes the best features from NewsBinPro, NewsPro, BNR, GrabIt, and other popular newsreaders and mix them together. As the originator to the NZB format, NewsLeecher has a full support for downloading via NZB files. With the built-in Super Search engine, you can search all the binary Usenet groups at once, for a specific keyword or keystring. NewsLeecher has advanced support for leeching from multiple servers at the same time, and an unlimited number of Usenet servers can be used to download files simultaneously. The built-in automatic multipart posts processing removes the hassle from combining binary post parts one by one. NewsLeecher detects and combine parts by itself.
What's new in this version: Version 5.0 beta 15 has upgraded the SSL encryption libraries and security settings used by NewsLeecher.

"One of the best, still."
Version: NewsLeecher 5.0 beta 6
Pros
Newsleecher seems to have had a rocky development past, but recently they seem to be doing much better. I have yet to find a better binary search and download Usenet app. Super Search subscription is a huge time-saver.
Cons
The latest "stable" release isn't great for posting & reading text based groups, but it is usable. Support needs some work.
Summary
If you want to download a lot of stuff on Usenet, you should definitely take a look at Newsleecher. It's worked very well for the past year and their Super Search feature is DEFINITELY worth the subscription. Don't pay too much attention to the past reviews, as those are much older versions.
I wanted to say also that this review is for the 4.0 Final, not the 5.0 beta. I haven't checked out v5 yet.

"Once the best there was.. not anymore"
Version: NewsLeecher 3.8
Pros
Easy to use interface. Excellent design and simplicity and the included Supersearch is...or was the best around.
Cons
Supersearch was certainly worth the monthly/yearly subscription. Sadly in the last few months it's had outages lasting days a week. With little to no communication from the software's developers regarding the outages has left many customers miffed.
Summary
Was once a great piece of software. The interface was easy to use and had many useful features.
All in all: Not worth paying for and certainly not compared to cheaper or even free offerings out there. Button Line, unless it miraculously recovers from its recent failings I'd say avoid this piece of software. -
"Almost great, but one BIG drawback"
Version: NewsLeecher 3.8
Pros
The program works alright, and although it has a busy interface most people can probably figure stuff out.
Cons
It's marketed as a binary downloader but doesn't support MIME attachments. Pictures are binaries too!

"Version 3.0 Final among the best I've tried, still has a few quirks"
Version: NewsLeecher 2.1 Final
Pros
Fairly easy to use after trying out about 10 different newsreaders (Android News being my current number one for handling large groups). Like the fact you can add multiple news servers. Also like being able to search multiple servers for certain header subjects. Pretty good-looking GUI with well thoughtout options. Love the file manager feature. Saves time when I'm downloading alot of different files and need to move them around.
Cons
Very CPU-demanding. Sometimes the program slows down to a crawl and lags in response time when a download begins. Screen flickers like my computer is having a seizure (but does not crash). I've got a Celeron 1Ghz, so it doesn't help. It can be incredibly irritating to have to wait till you regain control of it again (might have to wait for the current download to finish)

"This is in the MP3 section, I found no music."
Version: NewsLeecher 2.1 Final
Cons
This is in the MP3 section, I found no music. Where are the mp3s.

"I did not like the user interface"
Version: NewsLeecher 2.1 Final
Cons
This is not the best leecher I have used.
-
"Hard to install and use"
Version: NewsLeecher 2.1 Final
Cons
I thought the program was hard to install and use.

"Well, seems CNET is out of dat with this one....."
Version: NewsLeecher 2.1 Final
Pros
None now, since this is WAY outdated
Cons
NL Version 3 is the ONLY working version now without annoying pop-ups telling you your software is outdated. NL V3 is crap -- for some reason, instead of actually improving the product, they are only concerned about getting paid.
Bought V3, like a moron, and it promptly crashes every time it's started. Never had that with any V2 edition. Installed on fresh-kill computer, either it crashes or demands you pay for it -- when you have just paid! Tech support was poor (their suggestion on the BRAND NEW machine? Re-install Windows!), oh, and forget refunds. Their technical glitches are your problem.
Not worth the bandwidth, sorry. I was loyal to Newsleecher, but now I'll switch to Grabit or NewsRover. At least they're more stable and not PBS-like.

"Easiest newsgroup downloader to learn and use"
Version: NewsLeecher 2.1 Final
Pros
It has a wonderful and easy-to-use interface.
Downloading NZB files couldn't be any easier than with this program.
Obtaining group lists and headers is a snap.
Supports multiple server setups.
Allows multiple connections on a server.
Great program logo/icon.
Cons
Its not free.
Its quite expensive.
You have to contact the developers for a new key for every new flavor of the program they develop (as in, your Version 2 key will not work with Version 3, requiring a new key which you get from contacting the developers).
Developers way too concerned with piracy associated with their programs. Every new version has a worse cdkey algorithm making the program quite undesirable.

"Good Program, abysmal support"
Version: NewsLeecher 2.1 Final
Pros
One of the best binary usenet downloads, if not the best
Cons
Their support is far below what you should expect. I lost my old email address and could thus not acquire my licensekey. I tried to contact their support, and have tried for almost six months, with NO response. I tried to vent my anger at their supportforum but my messages got deleted.
