Version: News Rover 10.0
Pros: Handles all the different compression schemes and file reconstruction processes currently in use.
Cons: While the program functionality is excellent, the whole GUI interface is less than satisfactory, especially with inability to resize the message windows. You will spend some time learning this program as much is not intuitive.

Version: News Rover 10.0
Pros: This programs does most everything you want a news reader to do.
Cons: Well, this program is great it has its flaw's. The major one is it cost money after the trial period ends. The other major problem is the UI, it seems to be not very user friendly plus unless you're some what used to using usenet it may take you a while to figure out what the heck to do with this program.

Version: News Rover 10.0
"Not Bad, but Lacks Familiar Windows GUI"
Pros: Covers every aspect of downloading large binary files. Very good automated download and decompress functions with minimal user input. Well thought-out method to manage multiple news servers. Don't take the cons too much to heart; I have used this program a very long time, paid for the upgrades, and continue to look for something better, but I haven't found anything.
Cons: Lacks the standard Windows GUI pull-down menu interface, not wholly intuitive. Most glaring problem is in uploads and deleting message parts should you catch a mistake after composing the message. You have to delete each part individually. Can't resize the message compose window. It is apparent most of the NewRover programming has gone into downloading, not uploading. Configuration screens seem more like a hodge-podge of options rather than an organized effort.

"fantastic, automated newsreader and binary downloader"
Pros: I've been using newsrover since version 6 I think and it has always provided extremely fast downloads. It multi-tasks to multiple servers and tells you which are responding the best. The filtering capability is handy as is automatic duplication elimination. The program runs on a schedule and is totally automated. When it runs it can easily saturate my broadband connection. It does take some time to set it up and get the groups right, but once you do it brings messesages down that are on topic and can even filter out newsgroup spam and other garbage. The security option works well. Saves hours and hours of your time. I don't have any problem with crashes in the current versions and it does come with the ability to rebuild its database if it does crash.
Cons: My only beef is that they only provide free upgrades from major releases, which come out at least once a year. Over the years, I've had to pay for an upgrade at least 2 times, although the product has gotten better each version. Most of my problems have been with the news server, not the program. Limitations in number of threaded connections is the most frequent problem, but the program allows you to adjust for each server.

Version: News Rover 10.0
Pros: It's autoscan works great and fast.
Cons: Like some others have said not all its features work, like the "file search"
it finds loads but won't download any of them. they said its because i am not subscribed to the preset news servers such as giganews, supernews, newsfeeds and such,
but my older version of rover woked fine with my server.
