Netscape 4 is allright. But if you want an awesome browser, go with Netscape 6.2. You will nor regret it.

"Great OLD software"

N4.79 is still a great viable old tech program that desparately needs more than a few bug fixes to stay current. Download the Base install and don't install any of the plugins - they're old. Download and install Java 2, Quicktime 5 and Flash yourself. If you have any version of AIM installed over 4.3 that will have to be reinstalled as well. Once you've done all that you have a fast, powerful, reasonably reliable browser. Unfortunately much of the core of 4.79 is quite old and will still cause the odd crash of non-Netscape specific web pages. The powerful email client still can only access one POP/IMAP server at a time without switching profiles. Overall, if you can handle minor mods to a great program, and you cannot run N6.2, N4.79 is the way to go. It's time Netscape (although I hear iPlanet handled this update) cleaned up this package and made a light version for business.

Summary
Well with the stinker of a browser that NS6 is, I guess they need to keep updating this mediocre browser in order to keep all the 3 loyal Netscape users happy. Ok this version seems to be atiny fraction faster then 478, But its very hard to notice. NS has had hundreds of people working on this browser, and they still cant get it right after all these years.... Simply amazing
